Hi all! So, it looks I am going to be planning a DL trip in April 2027. My brother and I are planning a 2 week semi cross country drive to California to see a few sights along the way and back as well. He wants to attend the Star Wars convention in LA, and while he is doing that I am going to do DL as a solo trip for me. I have never even been to California and am feeling a little overwhelmed regarding where to start (even though it’s pretty far out timewise.) Any suggestions of previous threads or hotels or tips or …well.. just anything!… is greatly appreciated! I’ll end up using this thread as a planning thread over the course of the next year+. Thanks everyone!

Oh, how exciting.
We drove from NY to OR in 2015 (with six kids, youngest 2!) & NY to SoCal in 2018 (9 of us total) and they were the best trips of my life. We rented a house in Garden Grove, a few mins south of DLR & did 4 days DLR and three days other SoCal highlights. It is a beautiful area, minus traffic.
Start with your must do’s and work out. What do you want to see since you’ve gone so far to get there? For me it was DLR -of course- and then the Chinese Theater & Hollywood sign and Walk of Stars. and Pacific Ocean.
do you have places along the way you have as must do’s?

Where will you be coming from? If you will be driving the southern route, I have an idea for a nice stop to stretch your legs.

Excellent choice! 
I did Star Wars Celebration + Disneyland in Anaheim in 2022 and had a blast. In 2027 it won’t be quite as convenient since the convention is in LA rather than Anaheim, but I’m sure you will both have a blast at your respective activities!

Here is my trip report from 2022 for reference. Probably not super helpful since it will be 5 years in the past by the time you go, but just in case you’re curious.

Yeah, if it was at the Anaheim convention center it would be right across the street from DL! After traveling on the road for several days, I’m sure we will need the break from each other while we do our own things.

I’m never over here on forum, always in chat. But we’ve just booked flights to LA for next oct so will be at DLR 19-23 oct which just happens to be over my 60th. Excuse is that DH is working in LA from the 28th. We’ll pop to San Diego in between.
