I think you are fine. I don’t think people are necessarily complaining about the food offerings in and of themselves. Many sound great. I think the crux of the issue is the price point they are seeking these things at.
If the prices were significantly less, I might consider this place myself. I see food I would like. But I ain’t paying those prices.
I LOVE Gideon’s cookies and have zero problem spending $6 on a cookie that definitely feeds my family of 4 or me and DH over two nights. We just spent over $100 there last week. I tried their cake and just wasn’t a fan but felt it was worth $9. I could be convinced to try a different flavor. I’m not at all sure I could be convinced at any point to spend $25 (or $30 with a tip!) on a single slice of cake.
THAT being said. I was a little surprised to see the price tag on the petit cake at Amorette’s.
The Minnie Mouse cake on the left was $22, the dome on the right was $9.25. They were both delicious and I really enjoyed the cake which was mostly cake and not a ton of frosting. It “fed” my whole family of 4. I’d be curious to see the actual weight comparison but getting a whole cake for $22 felt a little more reasonable than just a slice, but in reality it’s probably a similar amount of cake.
Yes! We need a scale and results for a Gideon’s cake slice. Amorette’s petit cake, Cake Bake slice…what else? Steakhouse 71 cake slice? Who has a favorite cake slice to add?
That said, it feels like the Amorette’s cake adds more labor to decorate each cake individually, versus decorating one cake and taking slices. It’s like an extra style charge (and I also think the petit cakes are pricey, but they have plenty of cheaper items).
I’ll buy a petite cake next weekend and weigh it, if I bring my scale.
I have something at Amorette’s every visit! Its cakes are mostly cake and not a ton of frosting, like you said. Its buttercream is Italian buttercream, which is less sweet than American buttercream. But there was one time, it was too much fondant and buttercream! The dome on the Stormtrooper was all Italian buttercream!
Completely fair. . On second thought, it’s probably Mr. Whisperfigment who would have asked for an explanation, but he’s used to me by now.
@stlouie may take on the experiment anyway. . Yachtsman’s cake looks good too! You may need to purchase that for full field testing! Probably takeout, though, as tableside testing might be pushing it (but the price looks a little high for the size - you are also paying for nice plating on that one).
Hey, if bloggers can take pictures of their water, why can’t I whip out my scale? We’ll see…
I still think $16 is a lot for a slice of cake! But if the taste and presentation is good, I won’t grumble too much and might consider ordering it again! I might order one this trip in the name of research.
We’ll see how much cake I will eat over XX days! It will be a rather high double digit number of days! And I think you know I must have dessert every day when I’m on vacation!
ETA: I just realized I have yet to have Steakhouse 71 Signature Chocolate Cake!
