Universal Orlando News & Planning Thread

The Monster Makeover is Now Open! It is an indoor face painting booth. Neat! I probably wouldn’t do it, but nice that the artists can be indoors.

A full-face design is $125 + tax; a half-face design is $65 + tax.

There are nearly 40 options. I’m not going to show them all as they’re all pretty “basic”…

There appear to be some hair extensions / clips, lip glitter and temporary tattoos that may complete the Makeovers. I’m not sure if they’re sold separately or included…

Scariest part is the price tag!

For anyone familiar with the Pugh Two they just finished their makeovers

I do wonder how this affects the no mask / face coverings for UOR cosplay policies…especially at HHN??

And aren’t they using face recognition to get into the parks (that’s the new thing right? I’m not making this up?) What if you left and came back? Can the software still pick up your face with the makeup on?

They are & it works smoothly. I don’t miss fingerprints or even bands. My dream is that this will move into the lockers like it is in Japan!!

Yep! It looks for key points on your facial features / skull that can’t be concealed by make-up or glasses

Gotta admit, I kinda wish they didn’t do this. I honestly have no desire to see people walking around looking like that (horror, etc)…and I wonder about kids.

Maybe so few people will do it, though, it won’t matter.

(BUT…that photo of the Pugh Two is so them! I love their personalities.)

This is the reality. How many people do you ever see at the traditional face painting booths? Those are way less expensive…($20 - $30?? approximately)

Upsells are always difficult in parks… Most people are “normal” families that have already invested a lot of cash upfront. They aren’t looking to open the wallet much more…

The caricature & hair wrapping booths are usually empty too…

This is the photo that I think sums up the experience…

“Hi! We are thrilled to have just paid $250!”

UPNT has posted that USF has begun testing the lagoon fountains again! This is great news as it’s been since Sept. 2022 since there’s been a nighttime fireworks / projection show at USF

I wonder if it will be ready for viewing when we are there on Friday, March 8. It is the only time we’ll be there this year. I’ve never actually see any nighttime show at UOR other than the castle projections, which was a bit underwhelming.

The first weekend of Mardi Gras at UOR is in the books! You can find the food reviews in most places…

I’m not a big WDWNT fan. I do like their food reviews though - especially the last year or two.

I find Universal Park News Today to be pretty objective. It’s mostly regurgitating what other Universal sites publish. However, they do really good UOR seasonal food reviews.

I’ve watched 4 vloggers all review Mardi Gras food items. This is the only one that didn’t flatter everything and felt “honest”…

We will have our Best Bites out tomorrow.

I really want to try that Bananas Foster crepe! However, I some time have issues eating “mushy” foods like pudding or Jell-O. I need crunchy chunks to give those items texture or I can’t swallow them! (I know that’s weird!!)

That crepe looks like it’s just filled with banana pudding! :scream:

Me too. I am probably even more extreme than you but I have a real problem eating certain textures. Sometimes it helps if I eat very small bites but then it takes forever to finish.

I’m gonna put it behind a spoiler as it’s “gross”… You don’t have to read or reply…lol!!

I will vomit, no hyperbole, when I try to eat stuff like this. I, literally, can’t choke it down. I don’t know why!??! It’s happen enough in public, as a kid, that I actively avoid that stuff at restaurants now.

However, I can eat something like banana pudding if it has a bunch of vanilla wafers & firm bananas in it. I can eat mashed potatoes if they’re “lumpy” or if I put them on my meat… It’s sooo weird!!!

I can’t eat cheesecake even if it has a giant crust! It’s too much mushiness!

I will take tiny bites of cheesecake at home as I do love the flavor! I don’t dare try in public!!

Thankfully I rarely have that response but I do get a gag reflex. But maybe I’m just better at heeding the gag reflex.

I can just look at some foods and feel something bad about to happen!!

I did not unblur but I can say “SAME!”

Properly made cheesecake should NOT be mushy!

If you ever come by, I will make you a proper cheesecake!

Correct! It should be very dense.
