Reading “technical marvel, worth the wait”. This from someone who doesn’t hesitate to be critical of Disney when warranted.
“ROL fits DAK the way that RoE [Illuminations] fits EP. It’s subtle, beautiful, and above all impressive”. Same source as above.
:… this show was literally the most technically advanced thing Disney has ever done…"
Here’s a review from someone who saw the ROL preview last night.
A different source said the show ran 17 min, so this appears to be the “full show” that was originally announced, and not a cut-down version that some were rumoring. Still no opening dates announced, but things do look hopeful for it to be sooner than later…
I read Josh’s review from easywdw, and he wasn’t raving about it. He said the first 10 mins were impressive and then there’s another 10 minutes. There’s no lanterns or grand finale. He put it on a par with Flights of Wonder, great show, but not worth waiting 90 mins for. He also talked about the poor design of the seats with the row behind only being a few inches higher, so lots of people had a very obstructed view. He also compared it to a fridge, while technically very impressive you don’t want to watch your fridge for 20 mins. I still hope it’s on when we are there next month, and I will try and get a FPP, but I won’t try and change our plans if it’s not on the day we are in AK.
Just read the wdwmagic review and they are very different. The continued technical difficulties and the removal of certain parts of the show, is making me think it’s not ready for the public yet. Against that it’s a sure way to increase revenue in AK, and that may be the deciding factor.
I’ve pretty much written Josh off. I do not find his snarky comments and general tone appealing. And after his very ugly rant about TP in general and Len in particular, I decided that he would no longer get any clicks from me.
His attitude towards TP is a shame and totally unnecessary, especially as their general advice is the same. However I do like his reviews.
I just broke my boycott and read his review. It’s the typical snarkiness that drove me away in the first place. Comparing it to watching your refrigerator for 20 min…really? But everyone’s entitled to an opinion, and he’s welcome to his. It’s just that more often than not, mine and his are not the same…
Reading feedback from the second CM preview. It ran with no stops, and people who saw it tonight are saying “they can’t believe anyone could call it boring”. It’s been confirmed that this is not the “final” show, and that there are still some elements that will be added. If you remember, the first few shows of the new SW show at DHS didn’t have fire or laser effects; they came most of a week later - and that was AFTER it had oo the public. I feel nothing but excitement about this show. Too bad it will be at least a year before I can see it in person…
From a Liner who posted this over on Lines Chat: “I saw ROL tonight. It was simply amazing!! Visually stunning. The colors, water, and images were off the charts incredible! I can’t say enough about it! Highlight of my trip!”
I like to read all the reviews, good and bad. If my exspectations aren’t too high, I’m far more likely to be impressed. I’m still hoping it’s showing in 16 days time.
If ROL would start performing soon, approx what time should we expect the show to start?
@bswan26
I think it gets dark around 5:30ish, so earliest first show could be 6:30pm, depends how many shows they do per night, how long it takes to reload the show, which from the sound of things isn’t long, and what time the park is staying open till. If you planned for the first show being between 6:30-8pm, then I would suggest keeping 5:30-8:30pm free. That’s assuming you get a FPP or DP, if not then 4:30-8:30pm, or try to see a later show.
Too many variables for me. I might have to miss it this trip. The OCD planner in me can’t justify keeping 4 hours open for a show that may or may not even happen.
I haven’t read any reliable info on the date yet, let alone the times. Just my guess, but I would be surprised if the first show was before 7:00; earlier than that would impinge on “dinner hour”. The show runs (or at least ran during the CM previews) 18 min. I forget the exact numbers, but the seating capacity for ROL is approximately 4500, so that’s a lot of people to move out and in between shows (F! seats 6900), through 2 single-file gates (and half will be through an FPP scanner). Plus the show has to reset (my understanding is that the show ends with all of the floats “on stage”, so they would all have to be maneuvered back to the staging area), so I’m guessing that there will have to be at least close to an hour between shows. So based on the above (personal) assumptions, I would guess 7:00, 8:30, and 10:00, if they do 3 shows a night. If they’ve really worked out crowd control (something that the “insiders” are highly skeptical about) they might be able to recycle in 45 min, but I am doubtful about that, having seen the layout. But these are all “logical guesses”, so take them for what they are
I’m keeping my 6:00 Tiffins ADR! I’ve been looking forward to Tiffins far long than ROL! Tiffins seems like a sure thing!! hahaha
More CM previews 05Dec and 06Dec
Any CMs want a +1 or +3 for their preview buddy?
I am happy to offer me and my family as beta testers since we will be there those nights! But like SStottlemyer, I am keeping my 6:15pm at Tiffins since ROL only for CMs still.
Any news on the ROL preview last night? Did they change anything?
Surprisingly small amount of chatter. One person reported that the fire and laser effects were added back in. There are still technical (guidance) issues with the “100 small floating lanterns”, so if the show opens sooner rather than later it will most likely be without them - but they are expected to be eventually added back in. Still NO word on opening date or other previews.
