Probably good advice for everyone with a super strong opinion at this point.

I had a feeling this was coming after talking with Len a few months back when he said there was def going to be tiering

So my opinions are strong knowing this was coming and using it as it is now and comparing it to as it will be and in practice, it was way worse

Anyone that is in the parks today, Run a parallel in one of the tiered parks to see what you would potentially get on the new system vs what you get on Genie+

Let me know what your results are

Well a lot hated it and thats one of the reasons they changed it vs keeping it and just charging for it

Yeah…for me with a trip upcoming and already ready to go this is totally putting a little anxiety back in to my trip planning. I keep thinking “pivot…pivot…pivot” in my best Ross voice. Lol. Now to wait until its live to try and put together my plan before i have to book.

I am more pissed they took away my fruit and nutella waffle away at sleepy hollow. :sob:

It almost certainly won’t work for onsite stays because they know where you live and where you booked your hotel. Just like with MBs.

Having only recently discovered the miracle of VPNs I was amazed by how much worse the UK site is than the US one. You can’t see any availability or book anything on the UK site. It’s all “call 0800” and then wait for ages.

My sense is that the new system is worse than G+. But also: 17 million people visit MK per year and TP has a tiny fraction of those people as members. Most people won’t have an opinion on all this because they’ll be presented with whatever the system is at the time and will try to figure it out and will do the best they can.

It blows my mind how Disney has been able to add enormous cost to a WDW trip without apparent loss to themselves.

Though I wonder: if you are a family of four, and decided to use LLM every day of your five-day trip, and then you see a $600 additional charge, aren’t you going to pause and hyperventilate?

Nope

Nope

This is a benefit to you and many here but not the vast majority of visitors

There’s nothing better about this system other than the no 7am wake up (which could have been done without doing what they did) …Not one thing

  1. non resort guests inventory is awful again, like it was under FP+

  2. Non rope droppers get squeezed out of availability

  3. Resort guests now have to pay for Tier 2 rides vs Tier 1 rides…

Name me one benefit other than the 7am? There isn’t one…Pre booking 2 Tier 2 rides is a negative, not a positive

This. Thats how Fastpass+ was and that was the worst part of the whole system. 3 LL per guest buying G+ is basically the entire inventory for the day.

I have a solo trip planned for Sep 7 for 6 days (although may only use 5). I was ready for G+. My plan is to RD and close parks with park hoppers, so getting up at 7 am wasn’t an issue. Also, I could be a little more spontaneous with my park selections. If I get a lot done at Epcot on day 1, maybe I don’t go back until day 4.

Now, the -7 day booking is going to be a long process with spreadsheets and decision trees. I will have to pick which park I want to attend each day. Then, I need to figure out my tier 1 and tier 2 attractions that I want to book at each park. Additionally, if I want to book any single pass LLs, I need to book those, too.

But when I get to the actual vacation, I’ll still have to get up by 7 am each morning to do a VQ for Tron or GOTG if I want to ride one of those.

This has me seriously considering a trip to Universal instead. I can probably go a day less, spend less money, get more done and be totally spontaneous. The issue is that there just isn’t as much to do at Universal. There are lots of good rides, but many don’t have a ton of re-rideability. Plus, HHN will be going on and USF will close at 6 pm each day.

I’m currently staying in a 395 sq ft room with stunning panoramic views across Orlando that span from the volcano of VB to the turrets of Hogwarts. I get one hour of early access to the parks every day. The room cost $160 a night. Despite being from the UK, I am an annual passholder. All tiers of pass were available to me. I chose the cheapest one that cost around $500. I have access to all three parks with some blockout dates that are not a problem for me.

UOR has two of the three best rollercoasters in Orlando. It has the most immersive themed land. Its nighttime shows are easy to see and the one at USF is far better than Luminous.

You have two simple ride access options. Standby or Express Pass. The latter is expensive, though free to deluxe hotel users. There is no pre-booking of rides. It is really easy. UOR offers non-private VIP tours that are around $300 and offer straight to the front of the line access.

And all this before Universal opens Epic Universe, which looks like it is going to be absolutely amazing.

My point? The UOR value proposition is vastly better than that at WDW.

I’ve transitioned from staying at WDW and doing side trips to UOR, to the reverse.

Disney’s greed is surely going to bite it in its ass. This new paid FPP system is not a move in the right direction for guests and so, ultimately, not great for Disney, either.

I’m now convinced the G+ changes were announced to cover up the real outrage.

One of the potential strategies mentioned in the Disney Tourist blog post was to only book your tier one LL beforehand. Then on day of at Park open book your next two as tier ones. Or if that doesn’t end up working out, there’s also the expiration potential- wait for your first LL to expire and then book another tier one for the afternoon or evening.

I think there will be likely a way for afternoon people to accumulate additional tier ones.

Feel better now?

My heart goes out to you. It really does. I remember vividly how dismayed I was when they launched FPP. I saw my (then upcoming) May 2014 vacation go up in smoke. Unlike many of my TP friends I have a very modest budget and could not invest my DH’s earnings in a less-than experience. It is not hyperbole to say I was devastated. I’d planned that trip in my mind for three years. We ended up buying two-week passes to SW/BGT/Aquatica. My mom and sister were so mad and disappointed that we had to switch gears (we were still a few months out).

At that time I hung out on that other board. It had a much larger sample size of posters, and I was not alone.

I just want you to know that while you are not finding likemindedness here on this forum I do hear your angst. It sucks to have something we have had a good experience with change.

My silver lining was I found out there are a lot of other great places to visit. Staying steeped in these boards can make us feel like it’s WDW or nothing. But my travel life has gotten better, not worse. I really really hope you can either make this work or find other travel options.

I thought about PMing this. But there could be lurkers who are feeling the same way and are afraid to share what they are feeling to just be told to buck up and roll with it.
