I really, really don’t like this scale difference. I hope they add some sort of outer astetic to make it look more like the Poly buildings= less generic.
I don’t like the concept art.
I am hoping that, like DLR, this turns out much, much nicer than the concept art. The one thing that was interesting about the concept art is that it is a blend of wood and white. If they do this right, that could be an interesting way to blend from traditional Poly over to the Grand Floridian (visually) but also traditional Polynesian (the browns and woods) to more modern Hawaii (white, like on Waikiki beach). It will be interesting!
I love the concept of wood but not a fan of the light (white). I much prefer darker, richer tones- a lush environment. This is what I like about the Poly now. I just don’t want it to be too modern either. To me, modern architecture is too bland.
Something I noticed in the concept art was lots of vegetation. I had never seen that before, but it is incorporated into the architecture. Like you, I would love for it to be lush - so I am wondering if it will actually that. It would be so nice if there were water elements and vegetation as part of the building design!
All that is needed. But it’s soo tall too. I think because the other Poly buildings are so short and long it’s dramatic and hard to envision
Here’s the original concept art for reference.
I don’t hate this but whether I like it will depend very much on the execution. I like the actual Poly buildings better in theory.
Yea I’m sure it will blend in better when finished than what it is now. The concept art makes it seem very different from Poly, though. I suppose it won’t be much of an eyesore from within the Poly grounds, but from the lake it looks pretty dominant.
I actually like the concept art in general…if this wasn’t part of Poly. But it seems too disparate from the Poly style that it feels disjointed.
If this were off by itself someplace other than next to Poly, I would said it is very nice looking.
I kind of feel the same way about Bay Lake Tower and the Contemporary’s original building. Bay Lake Tower just doesn’t go. At all. But it is what it is.
I think Bay Lake would have looked better if they’d gone ahead and built a matching South Wing.
Without giving a specific month, Disney have confirmed that the Poly DVC Tower will open in 2024.
Wonder when we will find out if the new resort will be under the current Association. A lot of podcasts speculate thst it will be and they all make an excellent argument on the why’s. But outside of the expense it costs to set up the new Association, I haven’t heard a good reason on why Disney would want/ benefit from doing that.
Two benifts I can think of for Disney:
- it is a shorter contract life, so they get the property back sooner.
- the DVC without restrictions seem to sell better and this is their last time they can legitimately put a product on the market without those. They need revenue and I think Poly will fly as fast as VGF if it doesn’t have restrictions.
Why would this be a benefit for Disney?
They don’t even know what they are going to do with the earliest expiring resorts.
And it seems the choices are re-sell them, to current owners at an incentive or new ones and new pricing, or flip them to hotel (I guess this would require selling to Disney maybe?). Either option is not ideal, really.
but 100% this.
For the popular ones, this is like printing cash. They only have to do a refurb, they don"t have to pay construction costs and they have brand new inventory. And they get to sell the points at a higher points chart.
Right now tonfet new inventory they have to build or take rooms out of inventory.
HHI and Vero are different. I predict they sell these and walk away. And OKW and SSR will be interesting because they are such massive quantities of inventory.
But the monorail resorts and the Crescent Lake resorts are a gold mine that just comes right back to them when the resorts expire.
I wish they would suck it up, realize the resale market is what makes their product strong, and do away with these. I think it only helps them in the long run.
True. I guess I was forgetting that piece and only thinking of the effort and costs around re-selling.
Rather expect that too. I know folks love them but they definitely bring in less money and cost a lot more to run than the WDW based locations. Even Aulani, which has a strong following, has not performed as I’m sure they hoped. Heck it’s still not sold out.
Poor Aulani. It has a cult following! But so, much, inventory.
If they could build a Skyline station at OKW, this would be a game changer.
SSR holds the least amount of interest to me. I guess it’s popular for Disney Springs. And the tree houses look cool. If they could offer a little bit more like maybe a SPA and stables SSR could really become more desirable.
As far as Aulani goes, it’s too expensive. If they had some more value accommodations they could bring in more guest. And when those guest get “hooked” on Aulani, they may upgrade accommodations. That happens a lot with the parks. I would love to go to Aulani but between travel costs and accommodations cost, it’s a bit lower on the priority list.
The place is called Saratoga Springs Resort and SPA so you would think they will reopen it eventually.
We own at SSR. Most points for the least cost…plus it is lovely and relaxing with easy access to Disney Springs. We are happy with it. Still prefer BWV…but SSR is nice.
