Polynesian DVC Expansion

Oh my gosh! I forgot it even had a Spa. That’s a highlight. But not if it’s not open. I’ve toyed with buying SSR or OKW points because of the cost. I know I would like OKW better but I would want an extended use year. But then I go back to wanting in at the Poly! I love that resort. I don’t think I would buy direct but if the new building is under the existing association, I will probably buy resale. No telling if the resale price per point will increase or decrease once that’s announced- I’ve heard good arguments for both. They are on the higher ppp side and I would want my home resort to have more than studios. But then I do the math and question all my motivations for buying DVC, lol.

So true. I did the calculations over and over. Hard to justify in most cases. Never worth buying direct for us. We would never break even in that case.

I do like that SSR lasts to 2054…so even if we don’t use it, we can let our kids use it…or just rent points.

Word of warning - our dues are - for reasons I don’t understand - the highest among the WDW-based, and increasing at the highest rate for the last bunch of years.

I love it there, and I have a 42 and a 57 contract. And I love how far my points go and how little they were to purchase but can be used at much more expensive resorts. But damn those dues bills are ouch

I did see that. I would definitely need to do the math on how much more I would be paying vs the other resorts (Poly, AKL, OKW are my top 3 for different reasons).
I have time to ponder. I couldn’t make a visit again until March or April, but nothing on the books. Sept is DL and I want to do MNSSHP with the grandson in Oct 2024.

I have no regrets that my points (until my new contract comes through) are all at AKV. From the “buy where you want to stay” perspective we are always very happy to stay there! Excited for a stay in the dirt cheap value studio in June.

These dues are also high - solely due to the animal care. Otherwise they are comparable.

We have used the points to stay at:

  • Aulani
  • Animal Kingdom
  • Boulder Ridge
  • Grand Californian
  • Hilton Head
  • Polynesian

So have gotten a lot more use for non-Disney vacations than I ever imagined!

Just for fun I’ll complete this exercise. Not all of these stays were on my own points.

I’ve stayed at:
OKW
Poly
AKL
BCV
GFV (technically hotel rooms, not villas)
BLT

I need to stay at
SSR (scheduled for June 2024)
BWV
Riviera
CCV (I’ve stayed at Wilderness Lodge)
BRV

(I almost signed this off with “Thanks, Jeff” since I’m in work mode.)

I almost do this to one of my colleagues all of the time. We touch base by phone a lot!

@Jeff_AZ I have a few stays not on my own points - especially BWV, which was my test run for buying, and Grand Floridian - on the work dime, and also what hooked us as Disney fans.

I love seeing the lists, because it really shows the flexibility you have, especially if you work the waitlists!

I have stayed in BLT (thanks to @PrincipalTinker), and BWV (first time on rented points…second time on our SSR points) and SSR.

In March we are doing SSR again…but in a studio. Only did a 1 bedroom so far. So that will be new.
