So about that ride.
First I’ve heard that the plan is for VQs to be used only for exceptional days. So most days should be stand-by and LL+ - and of course Disney is hoping many people just pay to skip the line.
Secondly, and this is purely my thoughts, since there’s now no more VQs there’s no reason why it shouldn’t run during the early hours. And it’s to everyone’s advantage that it does.
If it does, then resort guests can start riding during the early hours (what are we calling this by the way?), and so by the time offsite guests can get in line, it’s a) already moving and b) many guests will already have ridden (even if some of them have managed to get back in line again).
The only fly in the ointment might be the StarCruiser guests. I suppose they could only have it open for them in those 30 minutes. But really, those guests are going to be arriving through the morning, so it doesn’t really make sense.
And if they don’t have it running during the early hours, some resort guests will just get in line so they’re at the front when it does open. The only risk there is that there are operating problems and it doesn’t open.

There aren’t very many of them - I think it’s 100 rooms with max capacity of 4, so 400 people max? That’s about 20 minutes of capacity on a bad day.

Yes, not many at all. But they all come over on a shuttle bus that may carry 10-20 people. That’s around 20 shuttle runs So they’ll be arriving over about 3 hours or so, maybe a fraction less.
I don’t see a reason to have the ride exclusively for them, even if some do arrive from 8:30 onwards. They’d be in groups and in the middle of a story arc, not just one long line waiting. So they’d just go through the LL Lane as they arrive.

I have tried all the tips for getting a bg numerous times without success, so hoping this change will increase the odds for my family trip in late October. Hoping the on-site advantage helps too. I can absolutely believe Disney IT is not up to 2 VQs!

Wait a minute, shouldn’t this affect park hoppers too? I mean if the reason for the no hopping until 2pm was because of ROTR boarding passes, then this will erase that problem.

Was it due to ROTR BGs? I thought it was to keep people from essentially ignoring park reservations by tapping into one park and then hopping to another.

You can solve that problem by requiring people tap into their chosen park first and I could see holding off a couple of hours, maybe at like noon. But I heard the 2pm was for boarding groups, as the times you could get them were before 2pm.

Disney started the 2pm hopping time to help manage attendance/crowds because of covid.
Of course, at the time the second ROTR VQ time was also 2pm. So soon after that hopping announcement, they announced the VQ time change to 1pm, just in case it would interfere with hopping if people were allowed to tap in before 2 and have this big rush of people.
And then Disney specifically stated that you can only get a BG if it’s your first park with a reservation.

95% certain you needed a park reservation for the 1pm drop AND to have tapped in. I don’t think it anything to do with the park hopping time.
The park hopping time is to avoid people booking anywhere and hopping after an hour. They can use park reservations to spread out crowds across all 4 parks and limit hopping to any park independently of the others. Which they’ve not done, but certain they will on Oct 1st.

They could. But they want to stop people just booking any park and effectively ignoring it other than tapping in. Otherwise they can’t use it to determine how busy each park is going to be.
That’s why I said they could do around noon, rather than 2. But there are some people that don’t even show up to the park until after lunch and completely skip rope drop, so I don’t think that is the entire reason it is at 2pm. The 2pm is especially limiting for AK, which closes earlier. I’m not even going to bother hopping there. And honestly, if it wasn’t for the fact that my park hopper tickets were from May 2020, I wouldn’t have bought park hoppers with the time restriction.

So, slightly off topic for this thread but still relevant, is that WDWMagic is suggesting that Remy/Ratatouille is definitely opening with the BG system that RotR uses currently, but will move to Standby and LL+ (the $$ version) once Genie comes online.

Flip side of that is, I’m guessing, early risers don’t book Epcot cause it opens so late and essentially is a waste. I know that’s why I haven’t booked an Epcot reservation since they started this.
Once the early entrance starts, it’ll be better, but still: these park hours suck.

I agree. We are going at opening for Epcot only once during our trip. We want to try to ride Teat Track during the early 1/2 hour since it won’t be on Genie+ (so we’ve read). We will use that as a sleep in day and/or got get breakfast somewhere. My kids don’t sleep much past 7/7:30am, even at 9 and 13.
We will hop over a different day and maybe hop in line for Remy at the end of the night if there is no boarding pass.
