Looks like they finally released the number

So not too bad- that comes to roughly $15pp value for a new pass. Davidās pays $16 for the āvalueā DVC resorts so the ālostā $75 is essentially the convenience fee of not dealing with the rental process or potentially paying taxes on the income. If you own a non-value and would get $18 or prefer to private rent your points, the math is a little different.
Yeah, Iām still working out the math to figure out if thereās any savings if you do this, then buy your full OTU points to recover 24 of the 65/75 points.
Either way, itās not nearly enough of a savings to really freak out over, and doesnāt make the plan an instant buy, thatās for sure.
This post has the cost breakdown of the pass
Agreed there are a bazillion ways to run the math that are both pro and con.
For the first time we will have a small excess of points and my S/O does not have a AP so I was definitely looking into vs banking.
If I consider cost of my dues vs cash for an AP it works - even as an OKW owner. My biggest issue is dropping 75 points for a pass means shaving off 2 nights in a roomā¦and at that point is a pass still needed?
I think it then get more complicated since you most likely buy one time use points at 1/2 price to replace some of those points? It makes my head spin.
Yeah- itās definitely too complicated for this morning- especially when the AP is for someone that rarely enters the parks except for dining events.
Another way to think of the cost is if you bought a new 65-point (theoretical) contract resale at a cheap resort for <$100 per point, thatās $6500 for ~30+ years of an AP, plus dues of $500-800 per year. If they promised the 75 points would never rise, that might be worth doing. Otherwise, itās not really economical unless you just happen to have extra points.

Thereās a lot of mathing going on in this thread
Well I am fessing up- purchased the membership magic beyond or whatever itās called mostly FOMO - I love the Epcot lounge and the waits to go up are significant on our last trip, feels like if I didnāt purchase the upgrade than the waits will make it ridiculously longā¦
Iāll be purchasing for the OTU points personally
Ok I donāt feel so bad now
I purchased it for the Memory Maker since I donāt have an AP and we have a trip next year that I want it for. Iām also hoping to use it for the lounges and maybe a character greeting.
Iām with you; this initially āfeltā like a cash grab. But it was a no-brainer for the OTU points (fall Bonus Trip) and Memory Maker for said bonus trip. Now when this hits $200++, weāre out. But it oddly works well for our familyā¦this year.
And more value and moderate inventory for non DVC. Not a ton but Iām sure every bit helps.
Many wonāt stay Deluxe if Value and Mods are booked up They would move to off site or shift their planned dates.
Thatās us- at this point if we are not staying DVC, we go off siteā¦For us i donāt find the bubble benefit of early half hour worth it. The evening hours make a difference for us.
Same. I just have questions about how the OTU points for your UY jive with these in the membership year.
I have heard that they work just as if they were usual OTU points: bookable only at 7most and expire at end of the use year. For me this is a great deal - I have a dec use year so if I purchase immediately) I have the full year to use them in that 7mos window which gives a cushion for rebooking if necessary
But I suppose if itās true they work this way, that doesnāt make sense for earlier use year months? So maybe I misunderstood
