New DVC Paid Membership?

I am still trying to understand this:

From the DVC site:

Basically it seems you get to purchase special tickets for guests, get bonus OTU points (but can still only have 24 in total) and priority access to the Lounges at MK and Epcot, plus DL.

Disney is out of control. An upcharge to get into the free lounges.

Whew. That was close. I almost qualified for spending more money! Fortunately I don’t qualify for Membership Extras.

Not only so, but an upcharge to cut in front of those already in line to get in who are already allowed to get in.

This is the only thing that really makes it worth it. Pay $100 to get an extra $240 in value. That is…IF you wanted OTU points to begin with.

On the other hand it seems like a way Disney is encouraging folks to buy OTU points when maybe they wouldn’t otherwise have.

I can’t figure out what it means.

The OTU is the one thing (and maybe discounted DL tickets) that would make me consider this. I manage small point contracts and I may try to see if I can use those points in my plans. Right now I can’t justify $20 a point but 24 points for $240 is interesting? Is my math right?

Wow. This is the day of the upsell.

Your math seems right based on the description. It’s a 50% discount on one-time use points. You’d need to buy 20 (or 10 and get 20 however you want to say it), spending $200 on OTU to break even on the $100 membership paid perks.

It sounds like @ryan1 is right that the main thing it’s encouraging is buying OTU points. Like you, I’m a bit interested in Disneyland discounts too.

Also curious about buying the AP with points. I can’t imagine having enough spare points to do it or that it would be a better deal than renting them even if I did have that many. Really just wondering what that’ll look like.

I can see it being worth it for the one time use points and possibly the discounted tickets. It would be interesting to see how much the discount is. But I don’t like that the discount is only for weekday tickets.

Yeeeeeeees!

Except you’re paying $99 for the upgrade, so you’re only saving $21 ! :joy::joy:

Well, just as wellI don’t see the benefits of this.

Disney is maintaining their “we don’t care about international guests” with this too. You have to be a US citizen to upgrade.

Mind you, before the rest of you get too excited (?) about it, you also have to be “of good standing”. That probably rules most of you out……

Only kidding, love you really. :kissing_heart:

Really? I could see resident. Actual citizen?

Oops, you are correct.

**Who is eligible to purchase the Membership Magic Beyond option?**

The Membership Magic Beyond option is available to DVC members with eligible ownership interests who are U.S. residents and in good standing.

Hmmmm. The hurdle for me is how many points it’ll cost for the AP.

Cause with some fantasy Disney Math

Pay the $100
Trade in your points for the Sorcerer’s AP, since that’s an even $1000 retail, I’m going to – very optimistically – say it’ll cost 28 points. Which, based on rooms, equals around $1100 rack rate)
Then buy OTU points for a stay 20/point currently = $240. ($20/point x 12 and then you get the bonus points)

So all told, $340 + 4 burned points for a Sorcerer’s AP. (Instead of $1000+tax.)
or $440 + 4 Burned Points if you want to factor in the loss vs just spending it on the room.
If using OTU prices for the burned points’s value… TOTAL sunk cost is $520. (That’s still a near $500 savings. And you get the other benefits that aren’t even associated with the AP with it too)

That’s… not terrible unless I’m missing something. Again, the big question is how many points it’ll take to get the AP.

edit: whoops, misread, it’s $99($100), not 90. Adjusted

But if I am also getting MM (which I don’t purchase) and possibly discounted tickets for friends or family, it could be a benefit. Maybe.

Yes. I was just commenting on the OTU.

The tickets are weekday only. It all depends what those cost I guess. Is it the same as the FL resident rates they give on the 4 day tickets, for example?

they should really make the tickets at Disneyland for ANY day, really.

Since DVC holders usually are AP holders anyway, they don’t really need weekday options, they need weekend options.

that is unacceptable

There’s no reason for that though. That’s BS
