It may be they end up changing/rephrasing it to “you can buy it while you’re in the US”. We weren’t able to complete an add on direct until we were physically in the US.
It’s different from the geofencing since (assuming you couldn’t for some reason do the now easy phone hack) you can call and get it done. I wanted to ask about the new Poly tower and they told me they couldn’t even talk to me about it unless I was in the US so I don’t think that’s changed.
Yes, that’s all to do with them not being licenced to sell timeshares in the EU or U.K. (probably elsewhere too).
And the app thing is to do with digital safety laws.
I do wonder though if you’re right and they’d let you do it in person. Except it specifically states you have to be a US resident. Would be interesting to see.
Which I didn’t realise for a while. In fact at one point I was very close to buying a small OKW add-on, until the Guide realised we couldn’t go ahead.
I knew we had to be in the US to take out a loan, but the add-on was cash. The Guide knew we couldn’t do Magical Beginnings, but was all set to close the deal.
The one time use points: I often go for short weekend trips. I arrive late Friday night and leave Monday. I have been using my points for two nights and I book an All Star for arrival night. I looked the other day and I could have added Friday night in the same room at CCV but it would have been 18 points. One time points would have made that $360. My All Stars room is $180 plus tax-$204 for 3 adults. With this 1 for 1 point plan I could buy 9 points at $180 and get 9 points free. The CCV room would be less out of pocket than All Stars.
I know this will not work some times of the year (7 month to book December) but there are other times it could be something I might do.

Seriously I hate this announcement - discounted tickets can only be used for guests that are household members and no idea what the discount will be. No mention of how many points = AP.
If you want to participate in the meet and greet at the lounge its only available on points stays.
The OTU points is a maybe but in order to recoup the out lay you need to pretty much max out
Except this morning as I listened to DVC Fan Podcast I realized I can buy 24 OTU points for a total of $340 ($99 membership, plus $240 for the 24 points — right???) and have a multi-night stay in a deluxe studio for less than the cost of a single night at some moderates
I hate myself for even thinking about that but that seems like the no-brainer here.
That would be true if you regularly stay at moderates instead of staying on points. With rare exception - I think we’ve done it once - we stay exclusively on points. We’ve already paid for the hotel by buying points, it goes against my grain to then pay OOP for a room. Also, how hard are those studios to book at 7 mos? Will it even be a strategy that can be realized?
I mean let’s not go crazy here… yes it’s technically multi night…but it’s only 2 at best.
That being said…that’s a really nice additional math thrown into the mix that I wasn’t even considering.
That’d be a nice feature to take advantage of for someone who’s already reupped their AP (like me)
Currently, not that hard at all. There’s obviously certain hotels that are harder than others. But SSR and OKW usually have available rooms.
I feel like DVC is a different business unit than the resorts somehow, right? Now DVC has effectively even further cannibalized resort rooms. I’m sure they are thrilled.
