Totally not kosher. At all.

Insulting to pork, shrimp and lobster to compare them to that letter.

I’ve read this several times in order to weed thru the AI stuff or at least polite speak.

I’d totally keep after them until they have an available Video Chat Cast Member availably on video.

So not suggesting you should. At all.

It’s kind of fun to be politely irritating.

She was much more polite than Disney deserves.

After reading through this entire thread I’m enlightened, disgusted, saddened- but also have questions and thoughts.

Personally I’ve never used DAS but I do have a son that qualified for it and honestly still would under these very strict guide lines. I have always worked around his disability because I chose to. We go so often that it has been easy enough to deal with it. And DS has a tolerance limit for the parks that would require several more days to a trip. And there is no way I could get him to do an interview. He actually denies his disability when he’s embarrassed. It upsets him and therapy hasn’t really lessened that.

But that was my decision to never push it and I’m fine with it. As he got older it has gotten better. BUT I don’t say that to mean anyone else should have to do that. Because no one’s situation is exactly like mine. I do know an adult- a very close family member- that has been approved for DAS under the new terms. They haven’t traveled yet. I’m not comfortable sharing their specifics but what I will say is their sister was present during the chat. And after the 3rd question from the CM she intervened and required the CM get a manager, a lawyer or a trained professional in on the call before she COULD answer anymore questions. Now this may have been smoke and mirrors. I don’t know if any CM questions were getting into a grey area but the “suggestion” was enough to get the CM to act. I do not know if a manager or professional got involved. But I’m assuming it wasn’t a lawyer, lol. (The sister is a lawyer). She was ultimately given, and rightfully so, DAS. It took a total of 2 hours!
I’m sorry for people that rightfull need it. It sucks that Disney decided to pigeon hole the diagnosis they way they did, specifically singling out development disabilities. That in of itself seems shady, if not discriminatory and will hopefully be challenged.
I will suggest that after a question or two people start requesting to speak to a trained professional as you are no longer comfortable talking about your specific disability. It is legal her to record a conversation as long as 1 party is knowledge of the recording. Although I would 100% let the CM know (in that legal mumbo talk) that this interview is being recorded for ADA compliance purposes.
A few questions I have…

  1. Thinking specifically of RTQ, how is one suposed to get out of line in an emergency? Are they really suggesting pushing your way through? And if they do- you are now in the very real situation of being a danger to the people around you.
  2. Are blue scans DAS? Because @JuliaMc referred to them and that is the impression I got. Is this the same as when you blue tap (as in not eligible) for a LL entry?
  3. So GR is no longer allowed to make calls on DAS but CMs at the lines are suposed to determine if your disability qualifies for RTQ? How is this RTQ working. Have we determined the specifics yet? It has to be in RT practice by now.
  4. Not a question, but I agree with @heathernoel change the name!! DAS is deceiving. I like @NoBellePrizeWinner’s suggestion of attraction accessability pass (AAP). Also not a question, but talk about the chess moves in prep for the new LL system has really brought to light that Disney can make plans prior to rollout. I personally think Disney was waiting for the lawsuit to play out but got boxed into a corner because TBA was opening soon. The LL systen was changing. And they felt they needed to address the DAS LL use before those 2 things happened. But premature execution much??

Interesting thought there.

What a cluster… As much as my kids and I yearn to go back (they bring it up on a weekly basis probably), I do not want to deal with any of this until it plays out for a while. I suspect our trips in the future will be very different than our first 3. We won’t be commando-style packing in rides each morning/evening via DAS+FP/LL, to allow long mid-day breaks. Probably have to scale back to 2-3 rides each morning/evening. Maybe thats ok. We’ve done everything multiple times already anyways. And the kids are getting older so many of the rides are very “skippable” now as well. Well, I’m just rambling, so back to work I go…

In my experience, prior to the recent changes, DAS did always scan blue and the CM had to clear it to allow us through and then it would turn green.

That’s how it worked for us at the end of May.

DAS holder would blink blue, then CM would clear it, then everyone else was green.

  1. Has Disney released anymore official information on RTQ?

More an observation but formed as a question- similar to DAS, couldn’t they, when offering RTQ as an accommodation, put it on your account. You tap into LL to register you are entering the queue (standby). If you have to leave you exit (they NEED to work on the logistics of this), tapping into LL as you leave. (This would be ultimately better if you didn’t have to go to LL, just a CM at one of the line exit points for taps). They system that seems to know how to collect an obscene amount of data from us could then, upon your return, gives you a reentry point that would be similar to the projected wait you had remaining? This would solve only people with the need of quick exit and entry. Not people that just can not wait in the line because of the amount of time. But it’s a more automated system requiring little CM interaction.

I’m sure this system can be abused as well- once it is more common knowledge what the trigger words and phrases are that allow DAS granting.

I understand the need for an overhaul. Honestly putting DAS in with paid LLs was probably a mistake. But creating a seperate entrance costs a lotta dough. I hope Disney finds a solution. They should have sucked it up and waited until they did find a reasonable solution.

Yes and no.

Blue scans are DAS, but also the touch points go blue when someone is early, late or doesn’t have a LL time. Or for whatever reason their LL selection isn’t populating.

I will say, I was in queue for FEA back in March, and it was longer than I would normally wait for a LL (we waited about 30 minutes because the line was INSANE…but I was with someone who hadn’t ever been on it, so yeah. It was a bit rough, I was done after that ride for the day. Standing in the same place for too long does bad things to my hip) and because it kept my mind off things, I watched how many scans went blue for the CMs to grant access at FEA. It was well over 80%. In fact, when we got up there she was waiting with her pad to grant us access and was shocked when it just went green right away (we had a LL).

We just got back and the LL queues aren’t as busy for some attractions but still wild for others. I am interested to see what happens with the next LL change that drops. I know the tour guides are happy with the changes, it’s been helpful for them!

I think your 80% observation is in line with @len posts. I don’t recall on what thread, maybe this one, but he said they observed something like 1400 (?) people enter the HM LL lane in a one hour period and <300 were paid LLs. That’s about 20%, so exactly what you observed.

I’ve been quiet so far on this and just observing. I’ve been a DAS user on some trips in recent years due to a neurological disorder that sometimes impacts my ability to function. I’ve also had AP’s for many years(minus when they shut down of course). So far, we are very happy we did not choose to renew our AP’s. I cannot tolerate going at all from May-October due to the heat, so the timing was good for us to skip renewing at the end of April. I hope they come up with some better policies in the meantime. As it is, we likely would not be able to attend. My park stamina even with the cooler temps and using my wheelchair has definitely gone down over the years, and I already only tolerate a half day at best. Without a cool, safe space to be able to wait, I’d likely only have an hour or two if that…and that’s just not worth it to me.

Has anyone else had an experience like this?

“. . . Pjak was determined to get a DAS pass. So she applied to speak to another Cast Member to try the process again, and eventually Pajak was granted a pass.”

I figured it’d be luck of the draw to some extent but I haven’t heard any other examples of getting different results with different cast members.

We were talking about this yesterday at my sister’s SiLs house. Her daughter has always qualified for DAS. I can’t imagine she wouldn’t now but who knows. It sounds like it’s not up to a trained medical professional. It’s up to a trained CM. Her daughter has a rare disorder that I can’t even recall the name of. Her developmental delays are on a spectrum but almost everything has been effected in some way or another. My sister’s SiL said she would much rather speak directly to a trained professional as the process will be less tramatic for her and her daughter. And I 100% agree. I can’t imagine her daughter siting still or not getting agitated after a period. It’s just how she is. Now that she can walk that girl wants to walk! She asked me if she could submit paperwork like at UOR. I think the process is broken. She will qualify. But it wont be without an emotional or mental cost. She said before she always went day of arrival and got the pass. They planned arrival day just so she could leave her husband and 3 kids at the pool and her and her mom would go get the pass set up.

“There’s more things that they could do to be accommodating,” she added. “If they have imagineers, then imagine something.”

As long as the trained medical professional’s only job isn’t to deny people. :woman_shrugging:

Just got home from trip with 8 people, 10 if you count the 2 friends of Mickey. I was granted das, sister was denied. I used das less than 5 times. I had to utilize RTQ 2 or 3 times (Navi, FEA, TS Mania). On the verge of meltdown from BTMR standby. Pirates standby queue was easier to walk than LL. ROR standby queue put me on the verge (people running around back and forth scanning qr codes on boxes), utilized DAS for 2nd go round to avoid even though it was walk-on.
Other guests were straight up nasty about the space we were taking in the queue to keep everyone safe, leaving the line, coming back past anyone. This, despite super low wait times on literally everything. It seems CMs at the attractions are getting better at RTQ. I was given a lanyard at Navi, CM at FEA recognized me from a meltdown in May, and they wrote my name down at TS Mania and let me through.

I will not do ROR, TS Mania, Navi, BTMR or FEA in standby again.
