New DAS rules

But part of the problem is that you have to get through a CM first. I would suggest everyone ask to have a medical professional from the get go- especially since reports are you have to go over EVERYTHING all over again with them.
I heard a couple rumors that they may broaden the scope for DAS but it will take time. We will see I guess. What do you think about Universal’s system?

The problem with Univetsal’s system is that getting the digital card is just step 1.
You then have to explain your specific problems with waiting in line to someone at the park. I know a couple of people who got it but one was denied.

This is a problem. I don’t think Disney can accommodate this. Personally I think the return to line system will get inundated too and will need to be revamped. It will be too chaotic in practice.

It’s , I think, better but have not used it. I think @Nicky_S has good issues with it. If it would just be get the card and then be accepted at the park it would be fine. I think that’s the basis of the 6 flags lawsuit but I barely know anything about that.

I don’t either but that was my first thought when @Nicky_S said you have to explain at the line. That is a very slippery slope. And having to do that over and over with varied results could present a “same access” issue. I expect Disney and Universal to make some sort of change depending on the outcome of the lawsuit.

To clarify. You don’t explain at each ride. You explain at Guest Services and get granted it or not.

Disney could have chosen to ban the cheaters they knew/ could prove were cheating and make that public to deter others if cheating was their main concern. (Hope I’m not being too hyperbolic :raccoon:). But they didn’t do that. So they created this mess. But I am skeptical about the mission of the medical personnel. I agree should just ask for it now since I’m sure CMs now have very narrow issues they are allowed to give it w/o deferring to the med person.

I think that’s dumb because what’s the point of verifying you have a condition only to maybe not get access. I think it says you need to call Universal GS once you’ve gotten the card but I could be wrong.

I think this is where Disney lawyer’s stepped in and said hold on there. Proof of cheating is a very tricky thing. It can lead to discrimination lawsuits. How to prove it really. I think Disney has strong circumstantial evidence that there was a lot of cheating. I wonder if this pendulum swing is to deter the cheaters. And once the dust settles Disney will do a revamp that is more fair and equitable.

I wonder if we will hear reports that people were denied their request or had to wait hours to get this met.

I think you can do either, you can definitely do it in person. But having the card doesn’t guarantee that Universal grant you their pass. So it’s based on need, and the GS staff make the decision.

The card simply states you have a disability, not what your needs are.

So like a qualifier for Universal to entertain your request.

Yep, it weeds out some.

It’s also hard for many International guests to apply for. I know a few families who couldn’t get their documents to upload and gave up. They were planning to take them and try when they got to the parks, but weren’t very hopeful.

DLR has a dedicated queue for x amount of kiosks to do walk up “interviews”. I previously had thought they were doing call-ins only, for either park. Has this changed or am I misremembering?

I’m looking to do in person for WDW as well.

International seems to have gotten the bad end of the deal for both DAS and the new iteration of LL whatever. Cynical me thinks they are trying to discourage international travelers for whatever reason right now. Which is crazy if the low wait times are to be believed.

At WDW you’ll get given an iPad set up for expedited access to the virtual call.

If you can do it from home it might be less stressful. And at least you’ll know in advance.

I’m sure at dLR they had the kiosks from when it changed.

That’s what I told them, it’s like you don’t want us to come and if we do you want us to have a worse time than everyone else.

You can do it in the parks but you are just being connected to the online center like you would be if you did it from home.

I’m so sorry you have to deal with all of it. So incredibly frustrating.

At DLR they were former ticket booths, possibly some Guest Services, but not that many. It’s why I was so surprised to see them. I had only done DAS virtually the 2 times I needed it previous to the recent changes.

I think those may be iPads to do the video calls but I’m not certain. I think that’s one thing they said early on. No in person but they would have the means to do the video from the park. :woman_shrugging:

ETA: others explained it better :joy::joy:

I’m sure it will be another system by the time I can go again.
