Marvel Cinematic Universe

Definitely Superman. His face looked awful with that CGI’d out mustache.
Was that in Shazam??

I never got my head around that. CGI is surely much more work than using a fake mustache?

Civil War and Dr Strange done.

Enjoyed Civiil War a lot. Loved seeing the way everyone played off each other. Some humorous parts and fun stuff amid the story developments. It was thought-provoking observing the struggle between competing “right things”. I was a bit reminded of the parable of the lost sheep - is the one worthy of saving if it puts the 99 at risk. It was emotionally tough seeing them challenged to sort that out in that way but it showed a lot of their character traits. I might be saying the wrong or backwards but the result was worth the journey - does that make sense?

Also loved that I completely got the Star Wars reference during the big battle, the really old movie Empire Strikes Back :joy::joy:

Dr Strange was… aptly named. I found it interesting I was curious but I’m not sure I liked it. I don’t like Benedict Cumberbatch as a rule (it’s a weird aversion that has nothing to do with him as an actor or anything I’ve seen him in – it’s literally him I don’t like – he creeps me out somehow) so that was a challenge in itself. But I found this character’s story, so far, a compelling one and I found his evolution appealing. I’ll be curious to see his role going forward. Still, it was all too “Harry Potter-y” and much as I wish I liked Harry and his pals it’s just not my genre. So this was challenging in that way.

Next up: GOTGv2

Question: it was suggested that I watch Black Widow in this grouping as her movie tells what she was doing after Civil War. It’s waaaaaaynout of cinematic release order, clearly, but it seems to make sense? Thoughts?

I would watch Black Widow now; I don’t think there is harm. BUT don’t watch the end credit scene.

I enjoyed Black Widow but I think I would have appreciated it more if they had created it directly after Civil War…

I think the casting was a good choice. Based on your comments, I think they were looking for an actor that could make you not like them from the start and then use the storyline to transform them.

There is some really good Dr. Strange moments in the up and coming movies in your watch list. I really liked the storyline they did for him in “What if?”. I am excited to see where things will go in Spider-man: No way Home and Dr. Strange and the Multi-verse of Madness.

As for Black Widow, you could fit it in, but I would personally stick to the release timeline given to you by the MCU for your first watch.

I cannot believe you are not a Potter-head. We may have to put together a new thread and get you prepared for a trip to Universal and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter (WWHP).

I’d skip Black Widow for now. It’s good, but doesn’t advance the story any (as it’s meant to be seen much later) and you do have a lot more movies to watch in the next few weeks.

That’s never going to happen. I have actually tried a bajillion times - books, audiobooks, movies. I just can’t get into it. And part of me really wants to because my whole family (extended too) are big fans but it’s not my thing.

I think I’m down to 8? I think I might make it.

I used to really love Harry Potter, but JKR’s virulent transphobia has really taken that love away from me. I will never go to Universal because she gets a portion of every ticket sold to the parks. And I cannot read the books (which I already had before she made her true colors known) right now. I know some have been able to reclaim the narrative but so far I have not. Which makes me sad, but transphobia makes me sadder.

Back to Marvel… I am through Ant Man on my watch-through (minus the ones not on D+) and I finished my first ever Lego project - the Guardians ship from Infinity War/Endgame

It’s not even like I can explain it. Like if I thought he was a terrible actor or a nasty human being. It’s nothing identifiable - he just creeps me out.

Good to know. Realizing recently that you are doing a watch-through, I have been careful in my last few posts to temper my comments so as not to spoil for you.

Thank you!! <3 I didn’t really start reading this until I was well into my watch-through, so you didn’t spoil anything!

I’ve watched most of the remaining ones (clearly out of order - well Infinity War and Endgame were in order because I saw them in the theater!) - I think Civil War and Ant Man and The Wasp are the only two I haven’t seen that remain.
