Is FoP really all that?

Not trying to change your opinion (because we experience it how we experience it) but I think it speaks to how well integrated into visuals the ride motion is. They use tricks to simulated acceleration, dives, etc. But you don’t even notice it.

This is a video recorded from the bag storage bin behind the riders. The bins on the wall do not move, but the riders do. You can see how much up and down movement there is, as well as leaning left and right. The floor travels with the seats, you don’t have open air below you (unlike Soarin’).

That’s cool Thanks!

I saw a video recently that was looking backward at the wall and the wall of stuff remains stationary but the platform where the ride vehicles sit moves up and down rather a lot!

LOL similar video, but the one I saw looked backward at your stuff. Posted before I scrolled far enough to see this.

What you can’t tell from some of the videos is that it can move up and down, or only the front or back moves up or down (to tip you). Itmove so much more than you think!

What were the tips for avoiding motion sickness on this ride?

Really!?! I wouldn’t have guessed that much.

The tip I read was to keep your eyes on the Na’vi guide in front of you. I don’t get motion sick so I can’t say if it works.

The ride is 100% worth including in your plans. It’s like flying, it’s exhilarating and makes me a little emotional. We RD it and buy the ILL.

It kind of works.

I don’t know that it necessarily prevents motion sickness, but the way 3D movies and such are rendered, they COUNT ON the fact that you are looking at a pre-determined point, otherwise things go blurry. So, most 3D movies will try to give you a point to focus on naturally. The Na’vi guide serves as this, which helps keep the 3D effects seeming more natural.

If you start to look around, you might notice an increased amount of blurriness. This is because your eyes are no longer aligned to the rendered screen as intended.

FoP actually isn’t too bad, because they don’t have a ton of “in your face” 3D effects. But you notice it BIG TIME on Muppet Vision 3D and Mickey’s Philharmagic. If you don’t look EXACTLY where they want you to, you start to see double. I can’t seem to ever get it right, because I pretty much always see double, which is annoying! I want 3D glasses that just eliminate the 3D effect entirely (basically, the filter on both lenses is identical).

I do find FOP a bit blurry sometimes, but I’m always looking all around, very rarely at the guide. Sometimes it’s fine.

I think that is because they need to replace the glasses but haven’t

It COULD be the looking around…but it could be the glasses. As the glasses get more scratched up, it will make things blurry. This has been a problem for FoP lately, because they are “running out” of fresh glasses, so aren’t swapping them out as often as they should.

BUT, looking around and not at the guide can add to the blurriness.

Yep. And I can never decide if it’s better to keep my regular glasses on or off. So I’m normally fiddling with both.

Well…if I took my regular glasses off, EVERYTHING would be blurry!

Taking them off is not an option for me unless I don’t care to see anything LOL

Exactly!

Mine are to see distance and they help me at night.
I can’t ever tell if they help or hinder with 3D. I usually take the off for things like TSM because the screen is fairly close. And I don’t have issues there. But I haven’t heard anyone complain about blurriness with TSM either.

Yes me too. Anything more than 2 or 3 feet of distance from me! LOL
