Generally there’s a little door in the ceiling with a drop down ladder.

I suppose that makes sense in areas without a lot of snow. I can’t imagine if we had to battle weather every time I wanted something in storage though.

I did think about a storage building for a gym. Or in a warm enough area using a third of a three car garage. Our home gym is fairly large. Five of the 8 of us use it regularly, though never at the same time.

I can see that.
In our homes the attic has only been accessible through the ceiling of a closet. And then they are unfinished and creepy.

Ours isn’t finished, but it also isn’t creepy. In our current house it’s not well inflated, so it’s very temperature sensitive. At our new house it’s very well insulated. I’m excited!

I find basements creepy! And attics too, I guess. In the house I had with DxH, I wouldn’t go down into the basement after 6:00 or 7:00 pm. Major selling point of my current house - no basement!

My basement is a family room of sorts. We have a living room and a family room on the first floor, but the basement has the TV and video games. I’d take a photo but it’s also my work space and my mom’s kitchen cabinet doors are spread out down there for painting right now.

Yeah, that would be a problem.
Summer poses the reverse, which is that your stored stuff is hot and humid. So my thousands of 35mm slides were not stored in the shed.
However, in central Missouri, air conditioning was not a given until the 90s or later.
In NY state in the late 60s summer was a hot mess. (And snow on the ground from December to March)
Central Missouri in the 70s and 80s not so much. Maybe a total of 7 or 8 awful days over the entire summer. Now - hot mess. Better have ac and a ceiling fan.
Still, I don’t miss the winters.

Oh…no. No, no, no, no.
That’s the space where the eight legged creatures live. I’m the designated “relocator/squish-er” (read: only one who doesn’t run into the other room screaming “KILL IT WITH FIRE, BURN THE WHOLE PLACE DOWN; JUST GET IT”), and I still won’t go up there.
Last time I went in that cubby hole I was face to face with a(n?) opossum and I’m pretty sure it screamed louder than I did.

I find unfinished basements creepier than attics. I feel like basements are featured far more often in horror movies

My house has neither a basement nor an attic. We do have a crawl space above our second story but ain’t no way I’m going up there.
I could use more storage space and maybe the shed / barn idea for a gym would work … I don’t have a very big lot though.

This is hilarious! Our basement is just like the rest of the house…completely finished with 2 bedrooms, a full bath, and a den/game room. I love that when we have guests they can have their own suite…there is even a full size fridge down there for beer and such.

I’ve lived in houses with both finished and unfinished basements. The finished basement was awesome. There was a bedroom, bathroom, den, and office. And an unfinished workshop type room. Nothing creepy about that basement. The two unfinished basements, I spent time down there, but only during the day and with the door open!!

We might even get to barns vs workshops tho that kinda sounds like something from America’s Funniest Videos.
Which reminds me: I’m hopelessly out of touch. At Christmas I got the great grandkids socks, sort of as a joke. The 3 girls loved their socks. 
But our 3 yo great grandson reacted exactly as I expected - handed his socks off to granddad before he even got the wrapping paper off.
I was ready and waiting and got the best photo. Three weeks later - every bit of 3 weeks - realized I should have been videotaping . . .
