Disney email Gift cards and physical card transfer

I am looking at purchasing Disney email gift cards that are on sale at Sam’s Club. I have never used or purchased a emailed Disney Gift card only bought the physical type card at Sam’s Club. This deal at Sam’s Club is too good to pass up at a emailed $200 Disney gift card for only $180. Does anyone know of any drawbacks to this type of purchase? Considering buying some physical Disney gift cards so as to use them for meal purchase and once used, add my email Disney gift cards to them. Does this work? Can I use them directly off my smart phone in a amount I specify. Has anyone had any experience with there use. Thanks

You cannot use Disney gift cards at Disney electronically. You can add the ecards to your account at https://www.disneygiftcard.com/ . You can then add you physical card to that same account. Then you transfer the ecard balance to the physical card.

I think Sam’s Club currently has the gift card sale. I haven’t seen anything about Costco yet but they’ve previously had deals pop up.

Agree with the above that you need to load the e-gift card into the Disney gift card website and combine it onto a physical card. If you don’t have any existing cards, you can grab one at most grocery or big box stores, put $10 on it and then you’re in.

Not nearly as good of deal…but if you have BJs membership, RIGHT NOW, the $500 gift cards have an additional $7 off, which makes the total discount 5.4%. FYI.

Yes, you are right it is Sam’s club and not Costco that has the Disney gift card discount. Nov. 7th-9th. Limit (4) $200 for $180 each.

I always but a physical gift card to transfer the digital ones to. There are some really cute ones online straight through Disney and it makes spending $$ more fun for me. Downside: the $$ is locked up and you are at their mercy if there’s any issue.

I can’t speak for every purchase point, but I was able to add my digital gift cards to my Google Wallet and use my phone to pay at Pop Century earlier this year. We used our magic bands in the parks during the day and then paid off the balance using the gift cards at the hotel.

I also recommend keeping the gift card number(s) somewhere on your phone (either a wallet or notes app) so that you can easily copy/paste it for mobile food ordering. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to save gift cards in the MDE app.

Was this a discounted gift card?

It felt like it, but I’m not sure if it counts. I bought them from Target and got a 5% discount with my Red Card. I bought a bunch and combined them at www.disneygiftcard.com.

Yes, you could scan the e-card? I believe you can use e-cards purchased from www.disneygiftcards.com for payment in the app, and you can manually enter discounted e-card numbers to pay for mobile app purchases, but discounted e-cards can only be scanned for purchases?

Edited to add there are additional reports that the e-cards from Disney are the only ones that can be added to the Apple wallet.

If this helps, I did exactly what you are considering last May for our trip to WDW. Bought the emailed gift cards from Sam’s Club because of their relatively lower cost, and then logged onto my account on https://www.disneygiftcard.com/ web site, as PrincipalTionker & SamRothein suggest, where I was able to transfer those emailed card balances to another physical gift card I also bought at Sam’s Club, which I used (like a credit card) when we actually went to WDW. If this link works, here is my post from last April where folks on this web site helped me figure out how to do what I just described. egift cards

Good luck.

Can you buy the Sam’s club Disney (3)$25 packet or $75 worth and add to the $25 balance on each card to make them $100 a piece. I know the card will say $25 but the balance transferred from the emailed Sam’s club offer should make each card $100 from fund transfer. Can I do this or does each $25 card have to have been used before I am allowed to transfer a portion of the emailed $200 Disney gift cards. Thanks

You don’t have to use up anything to transfer. You can also have up to $1000 on each gift card, so no need to buy three unless you just want to split it up. Just get one and transfer all the e-cards to it. The gift card website is really easy to use.

thank you. Here is what I like to do. In the past we bought 8 packets of three $25 gift cards. We would use 3 or 4 $25 cards to pay for a table service meal and pay whatever was left of the balance on a Discover card. This allowed me to include the tip on the Discover card. Now I am thinking of buying three packs of physical Disney gift cards or 9 $25 cards. I would then like to add $75 of the $200 (4) or $800 total to each physical Disney gift card making them each worth $100. For us this will pay most of a sit down meal balance leaving a little left to add a tip to this balance left over to a Discover Card. Can this be done? Thanks

Alternatively, you can put them all on one card for paying for your meals. I had two different cards for my last trip; one for food and one for merch. I also paid for my daughter’s tickets and my water park ticket using gift cards. Oh, and also my AP. I always take a couple extra in case the others are lost. That way, if I lose one, I can go into the Disney gift card site and move my balances to another.

One caveat: you can’t move a partial amount from one card to another. It’s all funds on one card moved to another card.

Yes, I too buy the 3 packet of $25 gift cards at Sam’s Club (because they are the cheapest on a per dollar basis) and then transferred the e-gift card balance to those three $25 gift cards on Disney’s gift card web site. I also check the various WDW restaurant menus online ahead of time that I know wifey & I have ADRs at to get an idea how much to spend on gift cards in the first place. To Disney’s credit I’ve noticed that with every receipt I’m given when I use a gift card, the receipt also shows the remaining balance of the gift card. When that card’s balance gets real low, I always tell the the clerk or waiter to please use the card with only $1.25 remaining first and then use the other $225 (or $425) gift card. They do, and also give me back all cards including the one with a zero balance. The receipts always confirm that they correctly processed the gift cards whenever I’ve used them. Once the gift cards are all used up, I start using my credit cards.

Since I have my cards registered in the Disney Gift Cards site, instead of this, I just go in and transfer the balance from another card to the one with a small remaining balance. (A good reason not to have your cards completely filled to the $1000 limit.)

Like they’ll stay at that amount for long….

And then you’re also not carrying around multiple cards that are basically unsecured cash.
