I admit it, I am a techie dummy. So, with that out of the way, I want to ask how does one actually use an eGift card when paying for something at WDW?
I ask because my local Sams Club is offering eGift cards at a much better price right now than what I’d pay for a “normal” physical card, the type I’ve easily used for years. But I have never ever purchased an ecard. I’d be looking at buying more than one. I assume I get separate “eGift” cards via email for each card purchased, save those emails, and then show them to Disney when I want to buy something (like a restaurant dinner) so they can scan some number in that email to use the eGift card. But I’m guessing right now due to my techie inexperience.
In the past I’ve simply logged online at Disney’s disneygiftcard.com web site and combined all my separate gift card purchases into a single card, that I ended up using like a credit card instead of carrying around multiple cards. So, I’m also wondering if an eGift card amount can be transferred to a physical card on Disney’s web site somehow?
Yup they can! I do it from Target all the time. They’ll send you a link to get the 16 digit number and that 8 digit EAN number. Then you can go to disneygiftcard dot com and enter them in like any other gift card. You can combine them, or transfer them to any physical gift cards you have access to. The website treats them the same as a physical card.
There will also be a 2D barcode on the page for the egift card. Disney can scan those, as well, and treat that like a gift card.
The egift cards can be added to a physical card on the Disney gift card site. If you have an old physical card you can use that. If not Sam’s sells a 3 pack of $25 dollar physical gift cards in store that you could load on the site to put your e gift cards on. What I have done in the past is combined all the gift cards on 1 or 2 physical cards and left 1 physical card balance empty on the site in case I lose a card. I can then transfer the money from the lost card to the 0 balance card on the site hopefully before any one can use it. I also leave the 0 balance card in a safe place separate from the 1 I’m using. Make sure if you use this method that you have a way to identify each card.
I keep an excel sheet with the card numbers and what physical card I add them to. Apparently if there are every any issues, it is helpful to have that info. But I always just add the e-gift cards to one of three physical gidt cards I have.
Only the digital cards purchased directly from Disney can be added to Apple Wallet/watch. The disney cards purchased from Target/Sams/Best Buy cannot be added to Apple Wallet.
I have two digital cards purchased directly from Disney that I keep in my Apple Wallet and on the gift card website. When I purchase discounted gift cards from other retailers (whether digital or physical), I add them on the gift card website and then add the amounts I want to the digital card in Apple Wallet.
I’ve tried to add cards purchased from other places and have not been successful. I think others have reported the same in other posts. Here’s a picture of the message I get when I’ve tried to add cards not purchased directly from Disney.
You absolutely should be able to do that. As long as you can add a card to the Disney gift card website, you can transfer funds and combine to a single card (up to 5 cards total). I do it all the time. I have in the past several months bought about 20 different Disney gift cards of varying amounts (at a discount) and then combined them to another physical card so I only have to worry about one. (I keep a second card that is empty so that if I happen to lose the one with the funds I can immediately transfer funds to the empty card.)
I have two eGift cards for our upcoming trip. They both have a barcode and say “To Redeem: In person, present barcode at participating locations.”
I have a Victoria and Albert’s reservation ahead of our cruise next week. My plan was to just print both of these out, and include them alongside our credit card in the envelope when the bill comes. I can do that, right? I don’t NEED to transfer them to a physical card??
No, you don’t. You can just print them out like you wanted to, and hand them to the server. Just make sure to let the server know to process them first.
Just to close the loop on this old post. I did the deed today. Bought some eGift cards and successfully transferred them all to a physical card that I am more comfortable using. Worked perfectly, but then you all already knew that it would, didn’t you.
Thanks again everyone for your help. I think I saved enough $ this time to completely pay for a couple of nice breakfasts at Disney’s sit down restaurants.
