Hoping to resurrect this thread for my trip next month. Any recent experiences good or bad with any of the companies mentioned here? We used ultimate town car last year with mixed results (nothing catastrophic just ok experience vs high expectations for price paid).
We used Gear Fusion in December and had a great driver both ways! They were both super nice and professional. Great drivers too!
I completely agree with @Sunshiney_Disney_Momma. Gear Fusion is awesome! They had great communication and great drivers. Our flight arrived 1/2 hour early, and the driver was already waiting for us. I will definitely use them again!
Good to hear! We have Gear Fusion booked for 1/13. Paid for a stop at Publix, so I need to set up an account there to put in a pickup order.
We have Gear Fusion booked for our trip in 12 days. Our flights changed and I shot them a text (I’ve used the in trips past) and the updated everything and we are ready to go!
Besides potential car seat/booster provision, what is the benefit of these car services as opposed to Lyft/Uber? Are there any perks or is it faster/easier? The cost of Mears Connect and Gear Fusion appears a bit more (maybe $40-50) than a round trip Lyft for 4 (we’d need XL since we will have multiple bags). We have used Lyft last 2 trips since DME has been abolished but open to ideas.
ETA, I don’t need car seats, I just understand those are not reliable with Lyft.
If I didn’t need a car seat / booster I would always use Lyft / Uber.
But that said, the car services tend to be slick and professional. They can also stop for groceries. It’s also nice to have someone there waiting for you when you arrive and not having to hassle with the app and waiting at the curb.
One benefit of Gear fusion is that they meet you at the the baggage claim and they’ll help you carry your bags to the car.
Ok so it’s more personal service. And you know you have a ride and don’t have to hope Lyft is available. Makes sense.
I will weigh the added cost against potential convenience.
I’ll be using Away We Go on Saturday
I had a really good experience with them – two pick-ups on one vacation – so I hope it works out well for you!
We used Away We Go in September to transport our group of 9 (including a wheelchair and a child who needed a booster seat.) It was a great experience, and I highly recommend them!
Away We Go was super. Text communication and instruction was great, with a picture of the van and driver. I was able to move our return trip pickup time up half an hour the day before. And the driver was still 7 minutes early.
Took a little post-trip hiatus from here, but we used GearFusion in December. They were great and I plan on using them again in September. Our driver was early and waiting for us in baggage claim, the communication was great. There was a text message the day before with our driver info and another waiting as soon as we landed. It certainly beat waiting an hour in the old Magical Express line, although I do miss that bus for some reason.
Cause it was free, maybe? ![]()
it’s not that, for me, time>money. I think the magical express was the great gateway to your vacation, it signified all the waiting was finally over. Everyone in line was excited, you chatted with people going to the same resort as you, the bus drivers were personable( i remember one bus driver about 20 years ago chanting the whole ride "Tron is coming!'). It was just fun. Now it’s grab your bags and ride to the resort, maybe chat about the weather and the traffic. Ope, we’re here, have a nice vacation. I like rideshares a lot, but Magical Express just had that charm and it’s a terrible loss still.
I cannot argue with your points, although I did appreciate that it was included for free, along with luggage service and delivery. It definitely streamlined the vacation since it was linked through your resort stay. RIP DME
Does anyone have any experience with FL tours recently? Or ever? I’m looking into them because I think we’ll need a grocery/alcohol stop this trip & they have one included. But I haven’t seen them come up here and considering these forums are how I make 90% of my decisions, I’m hesitant.
I think TP might have recc’d them on the site, but I’m not entirely sure because there is another company called “Florida Tours” and there is no link in the copy.
ETA: After seeing this comment posted, it really looks like an SEO grab on behalf of the company, but I promise it’s not. I just write like a robot.
Ha! I promise @missoverexcited and I will dismiss any spam flags! You made me laugh- thanks!
