2025 Hurricane Season

I hope whatever source you got that from is correct. We are leaving on our first ever Disney cruise Monday. It’s going to be a bummer if it gets cancelled or misses the port stops. :sob:

Which ship and what ports?

Pretty much all reports are still indicating a turn. Obviously mother nature could do her own thing and not follow models (Sandy, anyone?) but all the indications are a turn. Seas may be a little rocky, but that’s generally about it from predictions.

This was also Denis Phillips! He’s historically very accurate without fear mongering.

The walking the pet armadillo cracks me up. There HAS to be a story behind that!!

The Wish. Going to Bahamas and Castaway Cay. We’ve never been on a cruise and I have no doubt Disney will keep it safe, but this not knowing what is going to happen is annoying.

Oh I know! At 3pm no less?

Shouldn’t be a problem. It may be rockier than usual, but there shouldn’t be any issue leaving. The models are showing that PR and Bahamas might get some outer bands, but probably nothing more than high surf.

Castaway may be iffy - they have to back into a narrow channel and if it’s too currenty they can’t do it. They don’t want to skip it, but they have your safety in mind. Most captains will give it a couple of tries, and then if they can’t make it early will usually try again a little later. IF they have to scrub it, the activities team will get lots of extra stuff going on board.

Nassau - short of the port being closed I have never known them to cancel Nassau. Not saying it can’t happen, but it’s unlikely. What may happen if the seas are rough is some excursions may be cancelled. I know in 2023 there was one day when it was high seas. The ship got in, but the captain cancelled all excursions to Blue Lagoon. I know people were upset, but…that was the day a ferry to Blue Lagoon sank in the high seas and a passenger from another cruiseline which did not cancel the excursions died.

If it makes you feel better, the red is where Nassau and Castaway Cay are!

Exactly. It’s so specific!

Turn baby turn!!

That is good information! Thanks for sharing all that. I’d say Castaway is the one we hope to get to most because we want to run the 5K there. Of course, we prefer to be safe though. We have a snorkeling excursion at Nassau scheduled. Is that something I should cancel to be safe? We would like to do it, but it isn’t a must do or anything. We’ve never been on a cruise so I have no idea what is good and what is a skip.

Who is the excursion booked through?

I normally don’t get off in Nassau, but that’s because I’ve been there before. I did do a snorkel booked through DCL once and it was fine. If you’ve booked through DCL I wouldn’t worry - if the captain feels it’s not safe he’ll cancel it.

The Disney website. I’m not sure exactly what company, but it was a choice on the Disney app as a port excursion.

Definitely don’t worry about that then. You will get your money back if they cancel it.

Oh, so Disney runs the excursion? I didn’t realize that, but it makes sense because it’s my understanding the ship won’t leave without you if you are running late to get back and it’s booked through Disney. I thought they just subcontracted things out. We’ve never been to Nassau, so we definitely want to do something there off ship.

It’s subcontracted, like not always a DCL employee on the snorkel itself, but they organize it and they “own” it so to speak. So if you cannot dock or it’s too high of winds, they will give you your money back.

All of this is very unlikely though!

No. They contract with companies ashore. But the captain can still call a cancellation if he feels it’s not safe.

In terms of waiting - that’s true to a degree. Yes, they will wait for ship-based excursions as long as they can. Sometimes it is not possible and they will then take care of getting you to the next port.

That’s good to know. I’m more concerned with the safety than the money, but if Disney can cancel it due too being unsafe I’m less concerned. I’ve only heard good things about the safe aspect of Disney cruises and hurricanes, etc.

I hope this is true!
