Starting this thread for discussion of potential threats to Orlando during the 2025 hurricane season. Discussion of other storms and weather events is welcome.

I may or may not post periodic updates so everyone feel free to post what you see.

Thanks Jeff!!! DW and I were just talking about this over the weekend.

I take no responsibility for Hurricane Melissa! I’m sorry in advance and hopefully we never even get to her on the list.

I was watching Chantal closely as DD19 is visiting friends about 30 minutes inland from N Myrtle, and tonight they need to drive another friend back to Charleston area before heading home.

I fear I will never dismiss a storm again as long as I live.

May I clarify WDW cancellation policy please. Still thinking of visiting WDW in September, but am leery of not knowing if a hurricane will go thru Florida until after the refund deadlines in Disney’s cancellation policy for packages. Have only done the package reservations in the past and am familiar with the 30 day requirement for a full refund. Also, I am not interested in rescheduling our visit to another date per Disney’s hurricane policy. But this time I’m thinking of doing a “room only” reservation because I understand the cancellation timing is 8 days prior to visit to still get a refund. I assume by then I’d know better if a hurricane is forecast-ed or not, and would still be able to get park tickets for our stay if the weather is okay. Do I understand all that correctly? Thanks.

Have only planned on going to Florida once in September to visit a friend, not WDW, and he called me a couple of weeks B4 the trip & told me to stay home cause hurricane Sally was forecast-ed back then.

Yep this is right. I always book room and tickets separately for this reason. Packages occasionally provide a benefit over separate bookings, like when they offer free dining or the ability to cancel ticket purchases. But for flexibility, booking separately is generally better.

If you buy tickets in advance without using them, Disney generally will let you apply the cost of the unused tickets to new tickets, so you just pay the incremental cost. Rooms can still be modified within 8 days if it comes down to it, and Disney is usually very accommodating (ie, full refund / cancellation) if there is a storm affecting Orlando. They don’t want to incentivize people getting into harm’s way.

Possibly the larger concern is air travel.

Back in 2019 a September hurricane couldn’t make up it’s mind as to path and timing, causing airlines to cancel/reinstate/cancel flights on repeat. And then the hurricane was a drive by. Came ashore much further north. But some people had already rescheduled their trip to another month because of the flight uncertainty.

Since we drive, we’ve been twice in September.

Decided to check the tropics, so thought I might as well post the results here.

Relatively quiet. :crossed_fingers: Just the remnants of Chantal drifting northward.
