Certain aspects seem really cool, but I have an irrational fear of heights and really worry about that bridge. It just kind of depends. It doesn’t look TERRIBLY high, and it appears they harness you, so I might be able to handle it. Although, just looking at the photos of it makes me dizzy.

The pictures of the food, however, make me know that for CERTAIN I would not eat the food. There does appear to be ONE tin with blueberries and pineapple, but I can’t tell if that is watermelon or strawberries. If it is watermelon, I couldn’t eat it anyhow (and the juice would contaminate the rest of the fruit).

Setting that aside, though, I really love the up-close-and-personal aspect of the tour. That seems like as close as you can get to an actual safari without actually having to head to Africa for real. In that sense, it really appeals to me. The cost is really the overall inhibiting factor.

Thanks for posting the details and photos!

I booked it today for my sons and I for our Aug trip - 8AM. Your report and pics sold me - WDW should give you a commission!

Thanks for the great post!

This, of course, is the best part. If any of us are in any way disappointed with the WAT — perhaps because it’s too hot, or it rains, or we don’t see any kangaroos — it will wholly be @OBNurseNH’s fault.

That’s the only place you can see the rare African Kangaroos, they better be on the tour!

Awesome review!

An unexpected opportunity come up and I’m planning 2 solo days at WDW mid-September. I’m thinking of doing this on my AK day. Do you think it would be awkward for a solo traveler? Specifically the snack stop portion? Also, how far did you book in advance? I’d like to try and do the 8am but I’m not sure if this is one of those things that books up right away. I plan to call Disney tomorrow, but I’m antsy in the meantime. LOL

Thanks so much!

It would not be awkward at all! Do it!

We booked about 2 months in advance if I remember correctly. I’m not sure if some times book up earlier than others. @FindMeAFishingSpot shared this week that her tour was not full at all and that there was a family of walk-up joiners. I don’t think that would work for 0800 obvibecause guest services isn’t open yet, but just mentioning as a reference point for your consideration around timing of booking.

You’ll love this!!!

Yup, I booked 2 weeks before we went and originally there were only me and my niece on the Trek. A family of 3 signed up 15 minutes before the tour so it brought our numbers to a grand total of 5.

We just got back and sons 10 & 12 feel it was highlight of our trip! Even more than FOP, which we loved.

Thank you @OBNurseNH for informing us about this! Even with total of 10 in our group, we were made to feel totally catered to!

Loved the “Disneyfied danger” of the bridges over the hippos and crocs. The photos are very good and I’m sure they will be looking back at them and smiling for quite a while!

We are going on WAT in July so I just went back to re-read your review to make sure there wasn’t anything you mentioned that I hadn’t yet prepared for. I had forgotten about only being able to take phones that have cases that can attach to the harness. Can you tell me more about what made the case work and what didn’t? I don’t see any way mine could connect to something but when I google other cases I am not coming across other ones that would seem to either. Honestly, I kind of like the idea of not bringing my camera and just letting them take pics but then in the section where you are eating it seems like it would be nice to have it with you to take some of your own pictures of the food and views.

If it’s possible to snake a very thin rubberized cord through it, between it and the phone, you’re good.

I liked having mine but would be fine without it.

My pleasure!

This is such a nice, complete review. I know it is two years old, but @OBNurseNH is still around, and mine is a small question.

If someone was doing AK for two days on 10-day tickets, would you do the Trek on the first or second day? The advantage of doing it on the first day is that we would know what we could skip on the second day. But if we do it on the second, we could still enjoy doing the safari ride on the first.

We aren’t going until Feb, so I assuming everything will be back by then.
