WDW hotels automatically checking people out?

I stayed in my AKL room until 10:45 on check out day, June 11. No one knocked on my door at all that morning to rush me out of the room. Friend even left to get a mobile breakfast order around 10:00 from the Mara. I think the auto-check out worries are a one-off occurrence and not anything we need to fret about.

In our three days at AKL we never had anyone knock on our door while we were in the room to do a room check. This was basically a resort only stay as we only went to MK on an after 4:00 ticket on our second day of a three day stay. We were in the room in the afternoon for naps too.

This isn’t the scenario that people were reporting issues against. It was when people left their room, maybe to go into a park, and then came back to the room to find they had been checked out prematurely.

Left and came back later.

Did you leave as well? (Was the room totally vacant?).

Most of the issues appear to be linked to people tapping into a park, not necessarily being outside the room.

Like @JenniferB1975 I had no issues with being checked out of my room before I checked me out across a 3-resort split stay earlier in the month

I took some screen shots of what my MDE was showing in the morning
I got a push notification that I could check out on the app when ready
I opened the app and went to “Today’s Plans”

I clicked on the three dots next to Riviera Resort Hotel
That brought up a two-item menu to choose from

I clicked on “Manage Details”
This appeared next

I ignored the message the first time I opened it - didn’t click anything at all - while I did laundry, had a walkaround, and packed up to move resorts

When I was ready to leave I followed that same process again, only then I clicked “Yes”
This then appeared

At Bay Lake I only got a push notification to “please check out with the front desk when ready”. Not sure why as there wasn’t anything done or said to me other than inquiring about how my stay was and then they pushed that button (I suppose)

YC checkout was the same as RR

All this to say I was never bothered by anyone to hurry up and check out, never had a single knock to my door, and was never checked out before I was ready despite leaving my room in the morning at each of the resorts for various amounts of time and distance. I did not tap into any parks, though.

I left my room at all three resorts, two of them to have breakfast onsite and one to have breakfast at a nearby hotel that I was not staying at.

I did not tap into any parks, though.

The push notifications seem to be the norm now - whether to say “check out here when you’re ready” or “see the front desk to check out when you’re ready”

I am all for the push notifications to help nudge people to check out if they are gone.

Maybe they are fixing problems from earlier this year with the automatic check out.

Push notifications are fine, as long as they aren’t automatically checking folks out!

Agreed - this seems like a win-win, assuming it was a change in response to complaints about auto-checkout.

I did leave to go get ice.

We got the push notification as well.

I did get push notifications regarding check out in September 2024, March 2025, and not June 2025. I was never auto checked out. I clicked them when I left the rooms around 11:00. All my flights home are in the late evening so we don’t vacate the rooms until 10:45-11:00 and then we head to the pool for the day.

I don’t doubt you. But plenty of anecdotes suggest it does happen. I don’t think anyone has claimed it happens often. But even if it only happens once, that is one time too many.

For me personally, I am fed up with the incessant bothering that comes mid afternoon when we are trying to relax/nap and they won’t stop bothering us with calls and/or knocking despite the do not disturb sign. It is a separate issue, but one we have experienced every trip we have add at BWV and SSR.

I can add CBR to that.

Well. SSR, not Boardwalk.

BWV is the only resort (repeatedly) that has checked me out before 10, even when members of my party stayed in the room the whole time.

I think it could happen more often at some resorts.

Grrr, housekeeping just came knocking on my door at 8:29am. I couldn’t get there fast enough and they opened the door. Really not cool. My children asleep in the bed closest to the door and me in just a towel after my shower. We only got into the room for the first time last night at 6:30pm.

Yech. Sorry that happened.

Question, do you know if the deadbolt was on? Trying to confirm if housekeeping can unlock that themselves. There were reports on reddit that only security could unlock a deadbolted door.

I didn’t even notice the deadbolt, so it probably wasn’t locked that way :pensive:

That’s terrible!
