WDW hotels automatically checking people out?

First thing I do when we arrive at Disney is unplug the Hey Disney machine. I am fine using the chat feature in the app though. We requested extra blankets that way …and they arrived in about ten minutes!

Oh goodness no. No hot water? That’s an immediate trip back to the front desk.

Checkout is at 11 am, so my plan is to sleep until 10:30 and then leave by 11. I am not a morning person, which is why I shower and pack the night before in order to sleep as long as possible.

The more I read this thread, the more I think my plan will be to just tape a note to the door to keep Mousekeeping at bay.

Whether you tape the note or not, if it were me I would let the front desk know my plan/expectations thet day before and ask them to note it on my reservation.

The funny part is, they’d wonder what you’re up to, and that would give them more reason to do a “wellness check” on the room. :person_facepalming:

I think I would have to say something specifically about not being checked out before 11am since I will still need to use my room up until that point. Not so much a do not disturb request just I’m still occupying it even though I’m not physically here at the moment.

I would make sure it says I am sleeping in till 10:30 and checking out by 11. Please do not wake me or I’m as Grumpy as a certain 7 dwarf!

Especially don’t check me out before 11 if my room wasn’t ready by 4 pm.

Or whatever time check in is supposed to be happening.

hire more people to get the rooms done between 11 and 4. And here’s a novel idea, pay them a living wage, with benefits.

A lot of hotels start working on the rooms earlier than 11 when people check out. Disney is the only place where I’ve had housekeeping knock on my door as early as 9:30 to see when we would be out or make sure we were still in the room.
I’ve given Disneyy thoughts of this in a survey. It just crazy to think Disney’s solution to getting house keeping done in time is to auto check out guest when Disney feels you are finished with your room vs hiring more people. I will not that 3 out of 5 of our last trips they were actively training the housekeeper assigned to our room.

Disney could do something very practical. We have the technology. If the door is locked from the INSIDE, regardless of whether there is a do not disturb sign or not, they shouldn’t even START trying to knock on the door, etc, before 11 am. It is easy to have a MECHANICAL indication that the inside lock is locked that is visible from the outside…OR, if they don’t want to do that, they can actually tie it to the NFC…if the inside lock is locked, they NFC should indicate to them that someone is inside and they shouldn’t be knocking!!!

I’ve personally struggled with them bothering us at ALL when we are inside the room. If it is the afternoon, and we are in the room, generally we want to relax or we are napping, etc., not have you knocking on our door for a room check.

We are the same. I don’t get why they can’t find a way to leave us alone on vacation.

Decades ago when I worked in housekeeping at a convention hotel we started on rooms just after 8 am, cuz some folks were early riser/departers. Usually we knew which room was vacant from the activity in the hallway.

With the electronics of today no one need be even contacted once about departure. That this continues to be a problem with guests tells me Disney is not making good use of IT and they have crappy midlevel management.

They can when they’re properly motivated. :smirk:

They apparently haven’t received enough complaints. :woman_facepalming:t2:

I am wondering.

So, in theory, people could plan to head back to their rooms after a brief stint at the pool or the parks or whatever to change before officially checking out.

If a family finds themselves locked out of their rooms because of this, can they not just go back and insist they are given access to their room again (presuming it is before 11 am) so they can properly finish showering, etc?

(Granted, I don’t think this should be necessary to begin with.)

It seems to me that if Disney starts to clean enough rooms prematurely, only to have guests return to the rooms and “dirty them up” again before official check out time, they might have incentive to stop this practice.

So much about this whole situation just makes me angry every time I think about it. I would insist on a refund of some kind, or something, as compensation for their actions.

:joy::joy::joy: This gave me a good chuckle. Cuz… Disney IT™

I would certainly hope so. It’s paid for and technically still theirs to use. Their luggage and such should still be in the room as well.
But this is a time consuming aggravation that should be compensated somehow. Especially since it’s is done by intention on Disney’s part. It’s isn’t just an accident.

I don’t think even that would do it. After all, what is a complaint?
People staying somewhere else and saying why would be the only thing.

I’ve actually thought of doing something like this. Send DH and fam to do something early on check out day with my MB, and then I stick around the property with location services off and just watch the room. If they improperly check me out I’ll be there and can go ask about it in person vs chat on phone or app.
BUT
I wouldn’t be able to truly demand any compensation, bc there’s not really anything to offer back.
AND
I don’t want to get banned :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

It would be tricky to determine what fair compensation might be. But one might be to say that 4 pm to 11 am are the “hours” you paid for a room. (Let’s ignore a multi-day stay for a moment.) That’s 15 hours. If the room cost $300/night, then per hour you are looking at $20. So, if they “check you out” at 9 am, that’s 2 hours early. 2 hours would be worth, then, $80.

If you voluntarily give up those 2 hours, that’s your choice not theirs. But if they take it away from you when you planned to say longer, it only seems fair to request a refund of those $80 (or whatever it might be).

Yes. I can see this.

I’ll be at All Stars tho. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
And I’m hopeful we get great rates like the summer offers.

Oh. In that case, you can ask for $.32.

Actually, in your scenario, I wonder if they would do the auto-check-out thing. If you don’t tap into the park, and you have geolocation off, they might not assume everyone is out of the room anyhow.

Thank you for figuring a monetary amount.

I think there is also the other aspect of stress at having your room taken away early. That counts for something as well.

We could be very close to one night free room. :sparkles:
