Washington Dis Ney - a trip report

This is one we missed (not on purpose). Also Iwo Jima. But we have to save something for next time, I guess.

they put them up after the leaked document

Not immediately. Chessie’s housing is very close and the fences weren’t there until more recently. But I imagine that’s why.

It was father’s day as well… and there were SO many pictures and families there, I think it added to my sense of grief.

I went on a choir tour to D.C. in high school and we did the Korean and Vietnam War memorials one night. There were quite a few of us in tears, myself included. Those 2 are certainly very emotional

We ate lunch at We the Pizza. If you’re a Top Chef fan, it was founded by Spike Mendelsohn who is a TC alumnus. DD19 is a huge fan of Guy Fieri’s triple D - Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. I am a Top Chef fan. We got to eat at Comet Ping Pong which was featured on DDD, and a TC restaurant We the Pizza.

Add the FDR memorial to your list for your next trip, too. It’s fantastic.

That’s right! We missed that one too. It was surprisingly difficult to navigate in the dark. :joy:

We did a monument night tour and the bus took us to all the spots… it was amazing.

Yeah, we were on the DIY tour.

The FDR Memorial is my favorite memorial.

Those are good too  The night tour was a bit spendy… but worth it since we didn’t have a car.

We didn’t either as proven by my 30,000+ steps yesterday! We did get an Uber from the Jefferson Memorial back to the hotel. I needed some moleskin on the bottom of my feet today!

Oh my… I think I walked more in DC than I do at WDW. We took cabs, the metro (which is amazing) and walked… a lot.

Mine too.

We did that tour as well last time we were there. It was my favorite part of DC I think. We had a great driver/narrator who had lots of stories.

The driver w/ stories makes a BIG difference!

The electric scooters are kind of a game changer (or the bikes, but those have mostly been replaced with the scooters). The distance from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial is just a bit too far to be super walkable if you are also walking the museuems etc.

So sweet of you! DH always buys his sister a Starbucks gift card if he sees one for the area/state we are visiting.
