Walt Disney Studios to replace Animation Courtyard

I’ve seen him meeting right as you might enter the market, so it’s definitely in SWGE. In DL, Mando roams a little more. Hard to do as he is mobbed at HS. But he does do it differently - no line, but he will pick people from the crowd to take photos with him and greet Grogu.

Ah, okay. When I’ve seen him, it was just in the tunnel as you enter the the Star Tours end of the land. So…I guess Mando has a side-gig in the Star Wars universe meeting people.

I kind of agree and really like the DL approach of wandering characters. You don’t have to wait in line, no awkward posing for photos, and the possibility for more candid interactions.

But I’ve never been big on Meet & Greets. I have never done the Launch Bay meet & greets.

(Meeting Hayden Christensen is different cause it was actually him … but he is one of like 5 celebrities I would wait in line for.)

That said, I wouldn’t mind if they move the Vader / Chewie meet & greets to SWGE or an adjacent area so that people who want to can meet them. As long as it’s not cluttering Batuu itself.

On our last WDW trip, DD10 said she isn’t interested in meeting characters anymore because they are just random people dressed in costumes. I told her to keep it to herself and not spoil it for DS7 who loves character meet and greets.

Yes, HS needs all the attractions it can get to keep guests occupied. No SW meet and greets means longer lines for the other attractions.

I agree, and I would prefer to have the meet and greets moved to an area near Star Tours. But WDW always seems to find ways to force (pun intended) things to fit when they want to. Maybe Batuu has a museum with an area where you can great Sith lords, Jedi, droids and other heroes and villains from the past.

Wasn’t that indoors??

That was the most awesome space!

It was outside, but you walked through an opening that made it seem like you were heading inside, so I can see the confusion.

We were only lucky enough to visit it during one trip
I remember it feeling kind of like a greenhouse.

Now I want to go back and see the cute photos - I remember one in particular of my son who was so little then!!!

YES! This is the saddest space in any Disney park. It’s all ready to go!! For something. Anything. At least at DL where they did the Jedi Training is still using the stage (in Tomorrowland) for character parties. Even if that’s much less cool than Jedi Training with Darth and Seventh Sister or Darth Maul coming out to battle young padawans.

I am happy to hear that HS is getting what sounds like a similar to DL’s Animation Building. It’s one of my favorite favorite spaces to hang out and enjoy some Disney magic. And it’s a perfect fit in HS. And the HAT! I believe it was removed right before we took our first trip in 2016, so I will be giddy to see it!!!

Another thing that was closed (I think the literal day or two before) our first trip. I remember feeling like there was very little at all for my then DD3 in HS so it was by far my least favorite & hardest park to plan that first trip. But a big part of that was most of the kids-focused stuff she was marginally interest in had duplicates in DLR (TSMM, Disney Jr show, and at the time Frozen-sing-along, even with fab historians). It’s come a long way and glad to see it’s coming even further with this addition!

I think it had shade coverings and the upper parts were netted so that could have been the greenhouse feeling. It had water in it somehow too!

@lolabear_la I honestly had no idea it lasted even as long as the dawn of Frozen!

We visited in 2012 and my girls loved this playground! Unfortunately, we were burglarized and the computer those pictures were on was stolen. I have no photos from that trip, but lots of good memories.

Aw that sucks. But glad they can’t steal your memories

I’m really excited about the changes to focus on animation in Animation Courtyard. And I’m thrilled they’re including something like the Animation Experience from AK. Considering the importance of animation to Disney, I would be happy to see something like that in every park. Both times I did it in AK the class was pretty full, but it’s tucked in such an odd little corner of the park. Most people either don’t want to waste the time taking the train out or don’t even know that it’s there.

Unfortunately, they’re closing Launch Bay exactly one week before my brother and I will be there for our delayed trip to Galaxy’s Edge! Argh.

I might have disagreed with you until last week when I took my sister to SWGE for the first time. We RD’d Rise and then rode MFSR. At the bottom of the line Rey was just hanging out wishing people luck. We finished, went to find the restroom and the show by the tie fighter started. We watched and were interrogated. Went to check out the shops and saw Rey hiding from the Imperial forcea and then ran into the Mandalorian and grogu in the market. It was really awesome and perfect.

A little later we went to the meet ans greet where Chewy was distressed by my sister’s tshirt of Han in carbonite and refused to hug her. It was a great interaction but the time it hit me how completely diferent it was from the “live” ones, and how awesome the Star Cruiser must have been.

This is in the market and not as official, he doesn’t have a line form and will wander around some. Except at parties. Then there is a queue.

Just barely! I was there for the crossover too, and I think that was the first summer of the Singalong (2015) The playground wasn’t there much longer.

Im just throwing this out there for anyone at Disney to find, but theres a multi billion dollar abandoned building that could easily be donverted into a museum – a REAL museum, not just replicas of props

Has anyone heard anything, even rumors, about them moving the Star Wars meet and greets to a different location? With tomorrow being the last day they’re open in the Animation Courtyard, I would have expected to hear something by now about where that might go. We’ll be there in just 4 days. Is there any hope?

Unfortunately you may need to send a secret message to Obi-Wan for this hope. I’ve looked around online for our upcoming fall trip and I’ve found nothing.
