USJ announces new Pokémon experience -- other parks will follow

This will replace Japan’s Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, which has sat abandoned since closing on Jan22, 2024

And Alicia Stella now places Pokémon at the top of the list on properties to replace The Lost Continent

I told you. I’ve been saying for the past year that Pokémon was coming, and kept getting told that it was a stupid idea. That the franchise (the most popular of all time in multiple mediums) supposedly had no appeal to a theme park going audience

Bump? I can’t believe no one else finds this interesting!

You know much I care about Pokemon?

None. Less than none. I worry they will try to put it into USF or IOA instead putting in something else…better.

It’s interesting! My kid will love it. And if they do it right, I’ll love it too. It is hugely popular. Adults stand in line waiting for the vendor to come to our local grocery store to restock the cards each week. But there is so much more than that.

I think this is a big deal and will draw absolutely huge crowds of new people.

I don’t know anything about Pokémon. I’m assuming this would be a kids-focused land?

IOA only has Suess Landing for smaller kids, correct?

But, at Epic, 2 of the 4 main lands are targeted for kids. Super Nintendo and Dragon. That’s half the park, not counting Celestial.

If a Pokémon land would be on the Super Nintendo level and be interactive, that would be great for young families.

New attractions/lands to draw more kids to Universal is a great business strategy. Seems like a long term plan.

Don’t listen to @ryan1 ,when he takes his grandkids there someday and they go nuts over it, he will understand.

My only complaint is that if the Lost Continent is indeed the future site – and the already announced construction walls cutting off everything not adjacent to the water (Mythos, Fire Eaters, and whatever little shops are between them) seems to indicate that to be the case – it means that we’re most likely stuck with The Simpsons.

I have long advocated that Krustyland could be gutted and rebuilt as a[n] [Oak] Pokémon Lab, or perhaps the local Gym; the rest of Springfield could easily be repurposed as your standard town/small city: a home for the hero and the rival, a Pokémon Center, and a PokéMart. We could even get a new Power-Up band, perhaps themed to your PokéGear with a PokéDex app.

But I have faith in Universal Creative make the best of the former Lost Continent (more faith than I currently have in Imagineering). I envision the land being themed to a late in the game route that leads to a dungeon (game speak an enclosed location like a forest or cave) full of rare high level Pokémon and high difficulty trainers. Maybe Poseidon’s Fury can be themed to the Elite Four or a Legendary Pokémon. All the other buildings can easily be repurposed as remote outposts for the previously mentioned Mart, Center, and Lab. Mythos, they will have the be careful with, as I can’t imagine any restaurant in any other park is as revered. Now with a few cosmetic alterations, I think it can be rethemed as the ruins of an ancient temple dedicated to a Mythical Pokémon.

Right now, this trip we are doing next week will make or break our desire for future trips to UOR. I was getting frustrated with Disney for several years, but now I think they are starting to make (mostly) smart decisions again. Our love for Disney has grown. Our love of UOR has faltered considerably.

There is almost NOTHING we can ride with the grandkids at UOR, and zero at Epic. Epic is proving that while Universal can create compelling lands and attractions, they have been short-sighted and have created massive capacity issues with Epic that are not really able to be fixed.

I spoke with my kids about Pokemon. None of them really care about Pokemon personally, but they did seem to agree that it is probably a huge financial draw for them since so many kids are into it these days. Personally, though, there are other IPs I would rather see. Just literally zero interest in Pokemon.

As of right now, after this upcoming trip next week, we have no future plans to return. We have specific plans for three trips to Disney, one of which is already booked.

IOA also has The Olive and Camp Jurassic for little kids. But Pokémon has an intergenerational appeal. Millenials and Gen Z are gonna go wild for it, and don’t discount Gens X and Alpha. The same as the Wizarding World.

It’s worth noting that technically, Pokémon is it’s own separate company. Nintendo owns a large share of that company, but they’re not the ones calling the shots. So it’s very unlikely that it will be tacked onto Super Nintendo World. The article I shared said that at USJ, the planned attraction is replacing the Amazing Spider-Man ride. Their New York doesn’t have anything else, other than a Detective Conan (a very long running manga) stage show. I think the whole land is gradually going to be converted into a Pokémon City (something along the lines of Celadon City in Kanto, Goldenrod City in Johto, etc.).

Agreed. He’s being argumentative just for the sake of it. I wish we could down vote posts.

Actually, I’m not. I’m being honest and forthright. There is a difference.

For a while, Len and Jim Hill have heavily suggested that Pokémon will replace Springfield at Universal once the contract with the Simpsons (an IP now owned by Disney) expires. They mentioned this again on this past week’s episode. As accurate as Len and Jim are at “predicting” Orlando park news, I would consider it a foregone conclusion that by 2028 Simpsons are out and Pokémon are in.

This makes more sense to me. When we were talking about this in our family, the consensus seemed to be that where Simpsons is today makes a better place to inject Pokemon than The Lost Continent. You have a kids area with the Dreamworks section, so to have Pokemon pretty much adjacent seems like a smart idea.

Of course, putting Pokemon next to Suessland would at first seem similar, but only in one direction. The connection of Pokemon to an adjacent Hogsmeade and Jurassic Park seems quite jarring. The Lost Continent as it exists today makes that transition seem more, well, seamless. So, whatever replaces it (cough, Zelda, cough) would ideally have a similar flow.

I’m with Ryan on this one. And DD10 and DS8 have no interest in Pokemon either. But if UOR sees a sufficient following and interest, then I’m all for UOR going for it.

I must be in the minority, but I enjoyed Poseidon’s Fury, especially the original version. I was hoping for Lord of the Rings as the replacement.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Lord of the Rings…but I have had a hard time imagining any actual ATTRACTIONS based on it. I CAN imagine a really cool immersive land…but rides, not so much. I’m sure others can come up with some ideas, though.

I thought Pokémon was going in the Lost Continent.

I do remember when the original rumor was in Springfield, at some point it changed according to Alicia Stella.

Len and Jim stated this past episode current rumors are pointing to Legend of Zelda going into the Lost Continent.

That was the original thought, but Alicia reported that Zelda has shifted to Epic Universe.

Heck, even Universal may not know where it’s going at this point.

they’ve been working on it

The most recent edition of the UOG lists the Pokémon candidacy for both Springfield and Lost Continent. Either is equally likely, but both are also possible.

Last year, Disney put out some feelers in their guest surveys asking if people would be interested in seeing the Simpsons at DHS. I don’t know where they could possibly put a new Springfield. And on Universal’s end, they haven’t given any indication what their intentions are. I’m guessing they’re waiting until late this year at the earliest to make an announcement

I think the writing is on the wall that TLOZ is going to Epic Universe. It’s the only other franchise represented in the two Nintendo stores. There’s the stained glass windows featuring Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf (again, the only characters not already found in SNW). The floor mosaic of the Tri-Force. Music from the games is played in the soundtrack loop. And oh yeah, there was the time Eiji Aonuma was caught on video touring the park during construction, and Nintendo panicked and told Universal to quickly scrub the video

As for the point about a seamless transition, this was what I alluded to earlier. Every game has at least one mountainous area that’s full of caves, sometimes even ancient ruins. They could make minimize the exterior work they need to do if they turn the Lost Continent into that
