USJ announces new Pokémon experience -- other parks will follow

plans can, and do, change

I was listening to Capture the Magic podcast last night, and they were saying they have confirmed from their internal sources that Pokémon is going to lost continent. They also said Mythis would be changed to a Pokémon restaurant using the same staff. I’ve never eaten there, but I’ve heard it is very good and changing it to Pokémon could upset a few folks.

I can’t imagine Disney allows the Simpsons to stay at Universal. Disney has been trying to get Marvel back from Universal, but the terms of the contract allows Universal to keep the franchise in their parks. Getting Simpsons out of Universal is a way Disney can stick it to them.

If Disney takes Simpsons back, I hope they have a plan to develop an attraction that exceeds what Universal has. I have no idea where the attraction could be located, and with Disney working on Villains’ land for a rumored 2030 opening, I don’t know when they would have the time to get a Simpsons attraction operational.

Universal, on the other hand, will start demolition Springfield the day after its closure, start building something new, then as it nears completion announce what it is going to be.

It’s way too small of a space to do LOTR any justice

Maybe if they made it the fifth portal at Epic Universe, but I’m hoping that becomes the DC Comics/Studios universe

I believe Universal absolutely will do a LOTR land, but they’re saving it for UGB. Tolkien is way too important to British literature to do it anywhere else

I suppose it depends on the era.

There and Back Again:

  • use the patented but still unused ride system that allows ride vehicles to transfer seamlessly from a ground based track to an overhead track. Escaping from Goblin Town → pursuit by Wargs → rescued by the Eagles → lost in Mirkwood Forest → captured by the Wood Elves → escape via barrel riding to Lake Town
  • Defending Lake Town from Smaug

The War of the Ring:

  • Escape from the Mines of Moria (with the grand finale being a giant animatronic Balrog)
  • a Tower of Terror style drop tower inside of Barad-dur; when you reach the top and the doors open, you’re gazing out through Sauron’s all-seeing eye (ideally with a fire effect)

At some point, the LotR franchise will get licensed to somebody. I think the fans would prefer it to be the Peter Jackson vision of the franchise and not someone else’s interpretation of the books, nor what Amazon has done with the prequel series.

Tolkien famously disliked Walt Disney and his heirs have maintained his wishes and kept Disney from doing any LotR films, but with each passing generation, a Disney acquisition increases.

Ummm, no thank you. The only thing PJ did right was creating the world and that’s because he hired Alan Lee and John Howe who are absolutely the best LOTR artists out there (except JRR Tolkien). Jumping off my soapbox.

Where’s the confusion?

I said at the start that Alicia was now putting Pokémon at the top of the list for the Lost Continent

And this likely meant that it had fallen from the top contendership to replace Springfield

I was replying to @TwoBits

I’m not confused.

I do realize that.

I actually loved PJ’s LOTR, but hated his Hobbit series. I realized he strayed from the original source material in ways purists don’t like, but I fully understand why he did it. It wasn’t change for the sake of change. Like…do we really need Tom, for example? No, we don’t for the sake of the story being told in film. There is a lot of world building that Tolkien did that we only have time to get hints of through film.

And the film score? Much like Mary Poppins… practically perfect in every way!!!

I understand removing things. I’m okay with no Tom Bombadil. What I object to is changing the character of the characters. Frodo is played as a sissy, especially in the first movie. Faramir had no character in the movie. He’s exactly the same as Boromir except he suddenly changes direction. I object to stupid things being added, like the scene where they are attacked by orcs on the way to Dunharrow and Aragorn falls in the river. By the way, the actor almost drowned doing that scene.

I can forgive leaving out the scouring of the Shire, sort of. However the idea that intelligent people cannot understand the story as written is :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:.

I do agree with you on the change to Faramir.

Maybe if they had done it ten years ago, LOZ could’ve taken over Lost Continent. But not with Epic right down the road. Nintendo is going to want to keep all three of Miyamoto’s babies together

I think the shift happened a long time ago. People are only just now catching on to it

Yeah Alicia reported on December 11.

@ryan1 and I almost never have the same opinions (though this seems to be twice this week [Olivias]). I’m 100% with him and @bebe80 on major shrug for Pokeman. I have six kids ages 12-25 and not one of them has spent one day interested in Pokeman. But - if it draws people away from the rides I want to go on….

I will forever be sad that LOTR movies left so much out. I’ve heard all the reasons it was truncated. Ok. BUT the locations and music were excellent. Not sure about rides. But I’d love lunch in the Prancing Pony and a seat by a pool at the Rivendell Resort.

Universal already knows what they want to do. But unlike Disney, they don’t do it a decade in advance and then scrap most of the things they promised

I think you are in the minority here. PJ’s interpretation (or others who worked on the film) is the one that a majority of fans have watched. Not the animation, and not everyone have read the books.

Going with another interpretation would be like Disney doing the new trilogy for a Star Wars area (and we know how well the masses liked that), or the Wizarding World suddenly closing down and saying they are switching to the HBO interpretation of the books next year.

I may be in the minority here, but for fans of the books (prior to the movies), I don’t think I’m in the minority. It’s okay, nobody is going to change my mind. I’m happy with my stance.
