Oh gosh–I really hope this gets better for you soon!
It’s not getting “worse”, thankfully! However, on a normal day at work I walk 6 - 7 miles. Right now, I’m doing 2 - 2.5 mile, at most, and really feeling it at night. By morning, it’s improved. However, then I come to work and the cycle repeats!
There’s no way I could go to HHN as I am. If after taking this time off it’s still having issues I’ll go back to the doctor. I don’t know what they can do except verify that it’s not torn. All they ever say is rest, ice, Tylenol…
Pays us a $150 copay & more for X-Rays…
Thanks for the support!
Maybe a second opinion if you haven’t already? I really hate this for you!!
From my experience having an actual torn / burst Achilles tendon in my other leg + X-Rays, I can tell it’s this one is strained. It’s just a matter of severity. There hasn’t been a “pop” or anything in the leg to suggest a tear. There’s really not much that can be done. It’s just figuring out if this is going to be a one month injury or 2 - 3 months…
This is the place that fixed my torn leg and did a good job. If they say the X-rays didn’t show a tear then I believe them. I just wish there was more that could be done, like medicine…
On a “10 point pain scale” I’d say it’s like a 3 that doesn’t go away. However, if I was doing more steps it would most likely feel worse. When my tendon tore it was a 7 or more until it totally popped. (That was a 20!!
)
I just hate that I have to use up so much PTO!
Understood! I hate that you have to use your PTO as well!! That stuff is gold to me.
It’s day 3 of bed rest… I haven’t once gone to bed feeling worse than I did when got up. That’s an improvement versus how my injury feels after a day at the office. While my job is dull, I have tasks that require a lot of walking and a bit of heavy lifting…
I wouldn’t say I feel any dramatic improvement though… Aug. 15th is my “unofficial” deadline when I have to really start debating if we are going. Every year I see to buy something that’s nonrefundable and get stuck in one of these predicaments. If I didn’t already have $1200 in HHN tickets, I’d probably be less frustrated. It sucks that they’re not even transferable, let alone refundable.
Can you do a scooter?
I really wouldn’t want to… I’ve been to HHN and seen how bad it is for people on scooters to navigate. The scare zones are packed tight and no one will get out of the way. Plus, I’m not sure how much standing or walking I could do in the queues / houses…
Do you have any option to go on “light duty” after this week in order to preserve any improvement you get from bed rest? Potentially per doctor’s orders? Really hoping you don’t have to cancel!!
I’m already on light duties and it’s too much… My wife has actually been coming to the office to do my “light” work before / after hours… That was my motivation for using up all my extra PTO to take this week off…
I’m still trying to be hopeful… The diagnosis was 3 - 4 weeks of rest. It’s been 3 weeks of “light duty” with no improvements. If after a full 9 days of doing nothing it hasn’t improved, then it’ll be time to make some hard choices.
I already have one disabled leg due to an Achilles tear. I don’t want to do anything to “push” my good leg (which is the now injured one) and have two disabled legs!
I’m just having a pity party this morning!
So sorry, I can only imagine how frustrating this must be!
Larry, I’m so sorry! I keep hoping this will improve for you.
I am hoping you will begin to feel better!
Oh my Larry, sorry about your leg. Wishing you good results after resting up! Stay positive!
I’m trying! I sincerely appreciate the encouragement!
It’s day 4 and it’s not worsened. I do have many moments of no discomfort - until I walk unassisted. It doesn’t “hurt”, but everything is tight and the muscle feels “heavy”.
We’ve bought cold compression sleeves and regular compression socks. I’ve been spending all day on my couch watching movies or playing video games.
This is my world these days!
I did watch both Super Mario Bros. & The Minions movie this week. I really liked them both!
Maybe you should do a rewatch marathon of the Harry Potter series? Did that myself recently–I’m reading a book, then watching the movie, rinse, repeat.
I’ve been rewatching Brooklyn 99 - one of my favorites. Sadly, I’m almost done with what Netflix has because they don’t seem to offer the final season.
Decided to call my physical therapy office and make an appointment. Maybe they can massage it, hook up the electrodes to it or anything proactive. I’m sure “just resting” does help, but I need something to jump start this process!
I highly recommend signing up for a month of Peacock. You can finish Brooklyn 99 and also watch Olympics!
And I’m glad you are going to try physical therapy! That really helped me get through a pain issue a few years ago, they can work some magic.
Hope you get an appointment soon!
Great idea!
I’m really hopeful! Just “resting” is helping, but I want to try something proactive
Tomorrow at 3pm!
