I am as shocked as everyone else by this turn of events. I hadn’t really been checking in over the weekend, so this was, to put it mildly, unexpected.
As most of us are aware, @profmatt has been, for the most part, an absolute joy here for most of us. Following along his trips, his quick wit, etc, is something many of us looked forward to. Perhaps he’d drift a little off course now and again, but whatever. Who doesn’t?
The situation that is presumed to let to this seems to be from a case of oversensitivity. It might be safe to say something Matt said was drifting into uncomfortable territory for some, it was clear that he meant no ill-will at all. It pains me that he’s been banned. It pains me more to think how this might impact him, personally.
I, for one, would want him to be re-instated.
He went on a trip in December to help him get over some personal depression, and had the time of his life. It seemed to have helped. But to have this happen now would, if I were him, undermine everything.
So, as an act of solidarity, I suggest we all continue to participate in this thread. A thread he clearly started to continue his efforts to have fun and spread the joy of Disney.
Of course, that means $25,000 is a lot to figure out how to spend! So, high level, I think I’d look at this:
- Need to pay for gas and hotels for drive there and back. That generally amounts to about $600.
- I’d stay on property at a Deluxe resort. Maybe the Contemporary part of the time (2 bedroom). I’d want to stay a couple weeks.
3, I’d definitely splurge and get the Deluxe Dining Plan for our entire group. - I’d probably pay for several dessert parties and a couple of After Hours events.
- Lots of souvenirs!
