Prebooking at HS probably makes the most sense in this case - because it helps you plan the day. BUT something to think about depending on your HS ride list and how long you’ll be there… HS has a lot of Tier 1 LLs - and you’re only able to prebook one. So you won’t be able to book a second Tier 1 LL until you tap into your first LL at HS, which could be 10 or 11am. And by then it could be slim pickings. IF you prebook at AK instead - you could tap into something right after AK opens (usually an hour before HS) and book three T1 LLs at HS before almost anyone else that day. Book them as early in the day as you can - using the 119min grace period - and you might be able to zombie stack.

FYI: We’ve updated the optimizer so that if:

  • You’re within 7 days of your trip
  • You’ve indicated you’re using LLMP
  • You’re going to WDW
  • You’ve asked us to make LLMP suggestions (or don’t have any in-advance LLMPs set)

Then the optimizer will use the current LLMP availabilty and return times to make LLMP suggestions.

The suggestions are based on a combination of:

  • The “how much time does LL typically save at this attraction” data we have
  • Current LLMP return times
  • Your plan’s start and stop times
  • Any meals or breaks you’ve already got scheduled
  • The LL “grace period” you’ve set in the Advanced section

The optimizer will ensure you’ve got at least 30 minutes to use the LL before a meal, break, or the end of the plan.

Also working on adding LL “drop” data to the site and app. We may do alerts.

We’re adding Lightning Lane “drop” information to the site and app. Should be out in a week or so.

Drop times come from our historical data, broken down by crowd level. That is, there are a handful of attractions for which it’s not obvious that there are drops on slower days. So if we don’t see evidence of a drop at some crowd levels, we note the crowd levels for which we do see it. In the image below, Expedition Everest is a good example.

Here’s what it’ll look like on touringplans.com/walt-disney-world/lightning-lane:

Here’s what it’ll look like on individual attraction pages, using Expedition Everest as an example:

I expect that once we get this displayed in the app as well, we’ll eventually add an ‘alert’ feature to let you know when these drops are about to happen.

Kewl!

Hey @len, good to see you! (This is the pesky lady you met at the Liner meetup at Boma two years ago, who was writing her doctorate on anxiety, and the joy of play at Disney.) Hope you’re doing well!

My one concern with listing the drops on the TPs— and I hope it’s okay that I raise it here— is that the last time accurate drops were advertised widely on a site (ie, not buried and not behind a paywall), Disney caught wind and changed them pretty darn quickly. The websites and other places currently listing drop times often actually get them wrong. But Liners tested these rigorously when G+ was introduced, and then again when Disney was forced to change the times. In short: like in many things, Liners got it right. If this very accurate info is posted more widely, I suspect we’ll start a new (and rather endless) round of cat-and-mouse.

Do you have any wisdom on whether I’m just being overly concerned? Or is TP staff simply aware of that, and prepared to start the chase while knowing that this info in the plans may get outdated quickly? I’m also happy to hear if there’s an angle I’m missing here (as is so often the case). Thanks!

Wait @JERancher ! Are you saying that Tiana’s doesn’t have a drop every minute throughout the day?!(WDW prep is hilarious)

@len, I expect this info would be useful to users, especially if it is connected to a touring plan. Of course there will always be a gamble because some drops don’t happen due to weather or maintenance issues and users tend to “blame” touring plans.

If this is a resource that will connect to a touring plan, will you add the LLSP drops too? That info does not appear to be as widely published as multi pass drops.

I mean… technically it kind of does.

You think that is what they meant when they posted that fact on the list of drop times?

Until you said that it never occurred to me that WDW Prep School could have been making a joke, but I went back and looked at the original verbiage and this is not phrased in a way that would make the joke work, so I think they are just nuts.

I :100: think @feep was making a joke though.

Yes, it took me longer than I should admit, but I think it is very funny.

That’s a legitimate concern. We can’t control how Disney responds and we can’t know what their motivations are with LL beyond “make money”. I suspect that in the overall scheme of things, us saying what the drop times are, isn’t going to rise to the level where they feel like they need to change their entire operations.

If it does change, the new tools we have should be able to spot trends pretty quickly. But I don’t think it will. Famous last words, right???

This requires a subscription to access though so it won’t be “public @, right?

Yes, for sure. But I would venture to guess that more folks utilize TPs than most other Disney-adjacent companies. It’s one thing to dig for them in the Forum, but quite another to put them in the website’s namesake. Ultimately, I just think we need to be prepared for them to become public knowledge very quickly, and for Disney to then change them.

If we’re voting, please put the drop times behind a paywall.

We are going Saturday for a quick birthday trip for my daughter and then again in a month. Last trip was 6ish months ago and we used LL and BG1. Has BG1 gone down since then it loads but says Network Error and it makes LL so much easier!
