Yikes - that’s disconcerting. It used to be the maximum possible shipping was ~$40. Wondering if that changed? I always felt like I was getting such a good deal with the bulk shipping - especially at FARTs time where we shipped back a ton of prints for cheap that always arrived in great shape.
Yes, I shipped an entire set of dishes one year. I felt like I was the one finally profiting from my relationship with Disney ![]()
Catching up on my podcasts (a never-ending battle) - I feel like both @Julianne_fki and @LTinNC82 would like Episode 563, for different reasons. They talk about how the Destiny has very Starcruiser-ish elements to it…and they talk about the filming of the Hallmark movie at Disney World! Good stuff!
I feel like they Destiny ‘meet and play’ will get ruined by people being too much, but I have hope that it will continue to be a fun way to interact! I honestly hadn’t heard about that from anywhere else (other than the Dr. Facilier meet).
I heard people talking about Lacey Chanbert being in the parks while I was there last month. It would have been so cool to see her! Can’t wait for the movie release!
Len and Jim made it sound like there might be merch next year ![]()
I have already shared this info with her because even before this episode I was getting the feeling it seemed that way by what I was reading and watching ![]()
Unfortunately in a subsequent episode they shared feedback from subsequent cruisers on the Destiny that some of the experiences Len and Jim had appeared to be unique to the maiden voyage. I’m not sure which experiences specifically, but the vibe was that the Starcruisery stuff won’t be consistently available.
The Facilier meet does seem to be consistent but I’m not sure it has the same structure as on the maiden voyage.
Spoiler alert I think the following week they had someone write in that none of those elements were there anymore. Not surprised at all. Too many people who will feel like they paid the money and deserve a personal experience. It’s just not scalable to a cruise ship.
I have seen vlogs since the maiden voyage that still have the vibe IMO ![]()
Hopefully they’ve been able to keep the vibe even if everyone can’t participate!
I’ll let you know in about 27 days ![]()
YES!!! I am so jealous of so many cruises.
We were on in December and I would say that the vibe is definitely there, but it’s not like the characters know your name and stuff. Maybe there are some people who are good at remembering individuals and will get that, and the staff was absolutely amazing when we were on the ship, but it’s not as much as the maiden voyage (I will also admit that I had to fast forward a lot of that section b/c I listened to it after I got off the ship and I was like, uh, that’s not really right anymore… even though it is great and I loved it!)
I guess I’m too skeptical because when I was listening to the podcast I was like “they’re only doing this stuff for the press event, there’s absolutely no way they’re doing the personal invites for regular people.”
I really enjoyed this week’s episode about the construction of Epcot, especially after just watching Disneyland Handcrafted! I would love to see an “Epcot Handcrafted” documentary. That park is really a wonder of the world and deserves its own spotlight.
Have you ever read Steve Alcorn’s book?
Building A Better Mouse: The Story Of The Electronic Imagineers Who Designed Epcot
It’s not the most well-written book by any stretch of the imagination, but there is some cool nerdy stuff in there.
I have not! Sounds like something for my list …
So, yesterday I took advantage of some nice weather and took my wife’s car to the car wash and also got the oil changed and filled up the gas tank. She was so pleased she told me that I could consider it her Valentines Day present. After 25 years of marriage that’s life sometimes.
Imagine my surprise today to hear to @len telling Jim to do the exact same thing for his wife for Valentines Day. Not sure what to make of this.
nice weather
What is this that you speak of?
I enjoyed today’s episode. I was especially interested in the discussion of singular IP-themed lands at Disney parks. Len came to the conclusion that A Bug’s Land was the first with a fully external IP (as opposed to Toontown, which is internal IP). I was trying to think through which other ones currently exist in U.S. parks:
- Mickey’s Birthday Land (MK - 1988) - CLOSED
- Mickey’s Toontown (DL - 1993)
- A Bug’s Land (DCA - 2002)
- Cars Land (DCA - 2012)
- Pandora (AK - 2017)
- Toy Story Land (HS - 2018)
- Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge (HS / DL - 2019)
- Avengers Campus (DCA 2021)
Upcoming:
- Monstropolis
- Villains? - not specific IP
- Piston Peak
Did I miss any?
