Yeah I was confused by that part, too. Maybe he was saying it isn’t feasible now? Or he just forgot how it used to work.
But that’s what they are doing now!
I think they “show up in your room” won’t happen anymore, but I know that it used to.
I honestly wish that the resort luggage transfer had a 4 hour guarantee! I don’t care about it in my room but I want it at the hotel in a reasonable amount of time at least.
I really miss the luggage being placed directly in the room during a resort to resort transfer. It’s a real PIA to arrive in your new room after a day in the parks and then still have to deal with Bell Services to have you luggage brought to you. If it is a matter of the Bellman at the destination not having an opportunity to receive a tip, then I would rather pay a flat rate for the transfer that includes tipping on both ends of the transfer.
Yes I wonder if that is the reason. If so, it’s very annoying and I agree I’d rather pay a service fee.
I thought more that it had to do with the fact that they move rooms/people around too much and don’t want luggage holding up a room that they could reallocate.
That would make sense.
Having the bags arrive in the room was the best. Also having purchases sent to the room was amazing too. I miss both of those services.
Did the purchases get sent to the room at one point too?? I only remember having to pick them up at the gift shop.
Yes, they did.
Yes and it was glorious. Eventually they scaled back to pickup at the gift shop.
I really wish they at least had pick up at the front of the park again.
This I honestly don’t understand why they don’t offer!
I assume it might just take too long at the actual point of sale.
It costs money ![]()
But front of the park can’t be that expensive and I can all but guarantee that it would help with merch sales!
I have definitely passed on purchases because I didn’t want to lug the item(s) around all day.
Same! Or “oh I’ll get this when I’m on my way out of the park” and then forget or the store is packed, etc.
Personal anecdote from 2018:
Could not send package to room because they said it could take a couple of days (I think? It was a while ago
) and I was worried we would check out before it arrived.
Sent package to front of park - Had to pick it up near guest services. The pick up process was slow - my recollection is that there was one person working on finding packages, and they kept disappearing for ages into the back room. Possibly they were checking for lost items as well?
You also had to keep hold of the paper slip they provided, versus scanning your magic band.
(I didn’t know how long it was going to take, so I didn’t send people to the Emporium or otherwise entertain them. It’s possible it didn’t actually take very long, but just felt that way at the time.)
So besides staffing, it’s possible they got some guest complaints and decided it wasn’t worth it?
Crystal Arts still holds packages for pickup later - I forgot and tried to go to the old package pickup place instead. Once I listened to Mr whisperfigment, it was a much speedier process. ![]()
When I visited in 2001/2002, I remember there being a restriction on not having merch sent to the room the day before checkout because it took 24 hours or so. So that day we just did front of park pickup, with the paper slip.
When I returned this November, the lack of merchandise room delivery was the #1 thing I was annoyed about. No I do not want to spend money on shipping it home, and no I do not want to lug it around. I will do neither.
I only bought three things this trip, which if you know me, is a big deal ![]()
I will say the price to just have things shipped all the way home by Disney isn’t bad and is a reasonable alternative. Beats having to figure where to stow it in your luggage as well.
I don’t know about WDW, but last month at DL the shipping had gone up from $40 to $100 ![]()
