Don’t get me started on that “pre-flight” video, please. I hate it.
ETA: I should say, though…I’ve come to terms with that video because when I ACTUALLY fly, they have similarly silly pre-flight videos. So, I just accept it as true to form??? Still…it is just an annoyingly bad video.
I’m not holding it to a different standard. At all.
Epcot, The Land pavilion, has a specific purpose. The ride, Soarin’, as part of that purpose, is to show us…the Land! And in this case, selling us on “Around the World”. Except it isn’t.
In, say, MMRR, the purpose of the ride is to have us become a PART of the cartoon world. In Remy, we are supposed to BECOME the size of a rat in the world of Remy. Etc. They are delivering what they set out to do.
SatW isn’t. It is giving us a computer-generated versions of the world, rather than giving us the world. It is telling us we are going to visit, say, the Taj Mahal, when actually we are just seeing a poorly-created digital and sanitized version.
The standard is to deliver on the story you are “selling”.
This is my exact sentiments. I was so excited for the world version and knowing that it had nods to landmarks in the Disney parks (Neuschwanstein and Matterhorn specifically) was ok to say goodbye to the old and welcome the new. Then between a few too many abrupt movement s to change the scenes and the poorly executed & sanitized Taj Mahal and then ending with the C curved Eiffel Tower dampened a lot of that pre-excitement for me. I still like it but it’s not the same as the California version that was a lot more real. And still moves me anytime I ride it and am hang-gliding Yosemite, watching the sunset in Malibu, smelling orange groves or admiring the awesome San Diego naval base.
Still think the Drone Footage idea is superior though, especially with the quality they are now. Build up a library of footage and create a Star Tours style experience.
no no, nothing like a thrill ride. Same exact aesthetic and feel of the ride, just adding the “randomized scenes” portion from ST. The chances of two rides being the exact same would be slim.
Plus they can always easily (relatively speaking) add to the library because it doesn’t need to follow a story or have dialogue like Star Tours does.
