Shuffling points

I ran out of time waiting for Member Services, so I’m hoping to crowd source some info on shuffling my DVC points:

I borrowed a small portion of 2027 points (I have a June use year) to cover a trip this summer (July 2026). We are now looking at a quick 2 nights during April 2026. Since I’m still in use year 2025 I can’t borrow directly, but is it possible for member services to shuffle the points to borrow more for this summer to free up enough 2026 points for the April trip? Just to make it more complicated, I want to buy one time use points to cover some of my shortfall but it won’t be enough on it’s own.

Finally, IF member services can shuffle points, is a wait list still possible? There are rooms available (and frankly we should probably keep it to SSR or OKW because clearly I’m point deficit) but my daughter would love to stay in a Poly studio. Obviously that would exceed the points for a SSR studio so can the system automatically shuffle points again or no?

Can you use one time use points?

I can only buy 24 but I need twice that. So yes, but still not enough

Is this a reservation you made at 11 months? (why do I think that can make a difference?)

Can you spell it out more? You want them to let you borrow more 2027 points for the July 2026 trip so that you can borrow 2026 points into a 2025 trip?

Generally you can “shuffle points” yourself by modifying a reservation online, changing nothing and going all the way through as a rebooking.

That will use any banked, borrowed and transferred points first before current points.

In your case though, you first need to borrow more points. Which you can only do when booking a reservation.

So I think you’ll have to book a dummy reservation in your 2026 use year to borrow more 2027 points first.

Then cancel it, leaving the borrowed points in the 2026 use year.

And then modify your existing summer reservation as above, which will pick up the newly borrowed points and leave the “current” 2026 points available to in turn borrow to book the April reservation in your 2025 use year.

Can anyone else check this please? It’s late and my head is spinning.:rofl:

I think you’re right, except if OP wants to use OTUP they’ll need to call MS regardless and MS can do it all easier, faster, and without potentially pulling too many/too few points into UY 2026.

I think OP said they would need extra borrowed points as well as OTUPs.

Member Services can’t borrow points for you, it has to be when you book a reservation. Same for OTUPs. Which is where the dummy reservations come into play.

And in this case, OP needs to double borrow in order to book for April, which isn’t possible without the convoluted process.

Also, frankly, I don’t think I’d trust MS to be able to do this. I’d have to tell them exactly what I wanted, and if it didn’t work it would still be on me.

Will they shuffle points in the 7 month window for a booking made at 11 months?

You’re able to buy OTUP when booking online? I’ve always had to call MS to do that.

And I wouldn’t swear to it in court, but I recall borrowing points over the phone. I had to agree to the terms on the recorded line when she read her notes about the pemanence of borrowing. I don’t think that memory came from a fever dream.

@HutchFamily I think you need to call MS.

I believe you need to borrow more 27 points to replace 26 points needed to made this reservation (that need to be borrowed from 26.

If you are considering one time points, I think you need that done too, and MS to book the new trip.

Yeah, I will. @Nicky_S’s idea sounds promising- I’ve shuffled points before doing after canceling another reservation (just not with some of this other stuff). But at least now I have more confidence there’s a way to do this!

I do think you’re right about not being able to modify an 7moth window for an 11month one.

Yes - this is exactly right, except they also need to book a reservation with one time ise loints to add thise the list.

For the wiatlist, you can waitlist anything, but there must be available points in your UY or to barrow from the next UY in order for it to book it.

This shouldn’t matter if it’s all from the same contract though? Right? There’s no advantage here.

Only if they are all poins from the same home resort and don’t include OTU points.

See below from @heathernoel

Ok. I am reading that they only need OTU points for the April reservation so that should be fine.

That makes sense!

Yes, but only points from the home resort.
