RotR Watch: COVID Edition!

But bless my little type-A heart, I don’t know if I know how to just take in ambience when there are lines open!

The middle ground is to ride Alien Swirling Saucers, Midway Mania, Star Tours, and/or Muppet Vision 3D in the morning, then save the headliners for the afternoon. Those rides will probably have reasonably short waits. Or you can just knock out one of those headliners, regardless of the wait. But yes, afternoon and evening will have shorter waits.

It’s being reported that the virtual queue distribution will change tomorrow - Fri 7/24/20

They will only be doing distributions at 10am & 2pm going forward

(It was 10am / 1pm / 4pm)

Thanks for the update. Hoping we won’t need the 2:00 distribution time!

Those 10am Virtual Passes are still “selling out” in less than a minute - Good Luck!

Yeah. I’ve practiced twice. When I made a 10:00 am attempt, I was able to complete the process up to the point of the check of us being in the park in less than 5 seconds…more like 3 seconds. I’m as prepared as I can be!

The biggest problem will being sure we are actually IN the park by 10:00 am!

I just came here to post this.

Hopefully this means there will be more passes available at each time so it will give the illusion of more people being able to snag one. Of course, the real problem is that the ride just had a very low capacity right now with distancing, plus very high demand being the latest and greatest.

I would be very interested to see how long the line would get if it was standby only. I think they need to try that just one day to see if it disrupts the space-time continuum.

I love the positive spin on the latest announcement, but I immediately go to trying to understand the real reason for the change in distribution times.

Unfortunately, I believe this is related to the ongoing reliability of the ride. It breaks down too often. Because of this, they are most likely trying to mitigate the complaints/disappointment they will get from guests by limiting them from obtaining a BG. I believe this is them trying to reduce the number of people they give BGs to They just cant get through all 3 sets of BGs…

I think you are correct.

I think 80%+ of the park would be in that line! I’m in the group that thinks this change is due to ride reliability issues. IMHO - the ride & DHS couldn’t handle a standby only queue right now. (even at limited capacity)

I think you’re right that the underlying issue is that the ride is having reliability issues, but why wouldn’t they just decrease the number of passes distributed in each group?

I think the reason they are going to two windows is because the passes are going so quickly at each distribution window (like 30-60 seconds) that people are disappointed when they show up at 4pm and there are only 20 passes left and no one is getting them. Having only two windows makes it more likely that any given person will have a chance to get a pass. Only those that completely flub the process will take longer than 60 seconds. Those crucial extra seconds will give the opportunity for more satisfaction and reduce disappointment, even though the exact same number of people are riding.

Hopefully this will allow them to call boarding groups and spread people out more in the queue. We were stuck in the queue (multiple times) during multiple breakdowns and while I was thankful that we were in AC and in a portion that made it easy to have a few groups (we were just outside the interrogation room), I would have left if we had been further back in the queue because there are just too many people in a confined space for that long a period of time.

Hopefully they are increasing the number of groups given out at 10:00. Similar to how it used to be with 1 drop at opening. Then at 2:00 they can adjust the number of given out based on progress of the original drop.

Every time we went pre-covid and were in the park before opening, we got a group, every time. May not be the group we wanted but we eventually got on.
