RotR Watch: COVID Edition!

AK today an comparatively speaking, pretty empty too. Line at Starbucks was longer and we’ve just been taking our time waking all of the paths so no rides yet to compare wait times.

How do you know they are at full capacity?

I have been woried that the crowds in August will be worse becuase of the Florida Silver AP blackout dates expire. But if there at capacity, at least the crowds cant get worse…

I know that July 15 they were at capacity for HS for two reasons. First, because the DPP reservation system said so, and second because a blogger there that day asked and the CM confirmed they had hit capacity.

So the only reason it would get worse is if Disney decides to open up further capacity. I don’t think they will that soon. Even if they did, would people fill it? If they aren’t filling the parks to capacity now (aside from July 15), it is likely the case not enough guests are showing up yet anyhow, so opening up further capacity wouldn’t help.

So there was no park availability for Resort Guests, AP’s, and Ticket Guests on the calender for July 15th?

If so, the wait times dont look too bad.

I feel better about the crowd levels when the Silver AP blackout ends.

What does suck, every Weekend for HS is booked fro AP’s in August and September…

DH is back at HS today (I’m at MK) and he got BG 6! His group was called right at about 10:20

Man, hate to hear that.

What time did he arrive today?

We are boarding group 21 and we were called at 12:59. We are waiting to watch muppets then we will head back to Galaxy’s Edge.

9:49. He’s been evacuated twice but finally just made it all the way through!

I found it a real disappointment when they have issues with the ride. It rips you right out of the story when it happens. The unfortunate part for me is that the next time they get you back into the ride, I am always waiting for the breakdown to happen again.

In my mind, I envisioned them working extra hard on troubleshooting the ride when we were all in lock down. Oh well.

How long of a grace period do we give Disney before these breakdowns are no longer acceptable?

100% agree. To me, its not worth the hassle and lost time. DH doesn’t mind (which is why I’m at MK today and he’s doing HS solo lol)

Agreed. But now I’m envisioning someone having assuring everyone a couple weeks into shutdown that the problem had been resolved and everyone awaiting re-opening…and now back to the drawing board. I suspect a longer shut down doesn’t help resolve it if they need to try out solutions in real world situations? But it’s very disappointing.

Of the 4 or 5 times we were there it broke down 2 or 3 times a day every time. Seems excessive…

How were the crowds at MK today?

MK was great. More crowded than AP preview (got spoiled with that) but still low. Most ride wait times were anywhere from 10-25 min. Some of it is hard to predict because they stop the ride for cleaning. It usually doesn’t take too long but the wait can jump because of it, then go back down once things start up again.

Slow day yesterday - lots of downtime until that lovely 3pm curve:

Also, boarding group drops tend to last between 30 - 90 seconds. So get there early and snag one quick!

In better news, waits at WDW are lower in 2020 than they were in 2019 by quite a bit. I would be willing to bet that even the savviest guests are waiting in line less on average, even with no FPP.

So if I’m reading these graphs correctly, I should show up early (walking from BWV) to HS to get a boarding group, then go back to the hotel for lunch, laundry, rest, swim, and return at the tail end of my BG time, as close to 1:30 pm as I can get. This is just antithetical to my rope-dropping, cram-all-the-rides-into-the-first-hour TPs of the past. I don’t know if I can do it.

First thing in the morning lines are as bad as they will get at DHS. But everyone is at some line, so it is also the best time to walk around taking in the ambiance on empty park streets.
