Rental Cars 2025

My current Alamo res via Costco is $297 for a compact SUV. Best I can see on priceline is

That’s actually not too bad - only slightly higher than mine. I don’t know what your dates or rental duration are.

Mine is 9/17-22 10a pickup - 6p dropoff

10/9-10/14 830p/2:20p. I haven’t rented with dollar before, and don’t want to get stuck at their counter, so might stick with Alamo.

That’s a pretty similar rate then

You won’t get stuck at the counter - you can register with them ahead of time.

Hack (just in case): every car rental has a counter in the garage. Most people go to the counter in the terminal. Don’t do that. There’s almost ever anyone at the counters in the garage :bulb:

In January 24 the line in the garage was at least 20 deep and not moving at all counters. The lines in the terminal were hundreds deep. That was when I had to bail.

The special electric rate for my trip next month is $85 vs the $115 I have currently. I’m tempted to give it a whirl, but keep both reservations just in case.

Oh my.

If either or both reservation(s) is/are free cancellation, keep both!

Doesn’t look like Pop has EV chargers. What’s the policy on returning the vehicle fully charged?

Supposed to be returned fully charged from what the others have said, much the same as returning a gas powered car with a full tank

I researched this and the policy is within 5% of what you got, which hopefully wasn’t 100%.

Fully charged in an EV is actually very hard. The last 20% takes longer to get.

Also, the “full tank” was only $27 which was also relatively attractive.

With the lack of chargers available where I’m parking (Pop), doesn’t seem like it’s worth the $30 savings.

Just saved $5 on my September booking! Exactly 30 days out

Hardly worth the trouble of changing the reservation.

Pro Tip: Don’t enter your reservation into the app or attach your membership number to the reservation until you’re sure it’s final. Last year I was billed for my original reservation before changes, even though I had cancelled it. Thankfully I noticed before they ran my credit card and had them pull up my replacement reservation.

If it’s a pay-later I don’t even have to enter my card info. They have nothing to charge

Mine was pay later. What I’m saying is when I checked in at the desk, they printed off the invoice using the original price I booked and later canceled since it was still on my profile (for Avis in this case). If I hadn’t been paying close attention, I might have paid it and been SOL. As it was I asked them to reprint using my latest reservation, which they had to locate using my confirmation number.

Ohhhhh gotcha

I already had it pulled up from the search, so just two clicks to complete and one more to cancel.

With Costco you can just not show up and never worry about being charged.

I had booked mine through Costco. In this case I showed up because I was using another reservation for cheaper I had made through the same rental car service.

Ahh - they used the older reservation even though you canceled it? Wild!

I never link until I get the email from Costco a couple of days before my reservation. Then I do one final check before linking and setting up direct to car.
