I feel like this is the anger stage, TBH, rather than acceptance. First, you’re not wrong about this site feeling less useful for its original purpose. The intricacies of whether to open the app at 07:59:53 or at 08:00:02, or whether it’s better to RD MMRR or MFSR are no longer relevant. Crowd calendars? Forget it. Our kids might be in school all summer.
But shut down forever? Nah. Too big to fail. I think the effects will be felt in years, not weeks, but not in forevers.
Agreed. But my IRAs and workplace retirement accounts are a not too distant second. There are some doom-and-gloom types in the media warning of another Great Depression. I don’t see it, but I barely qualify as a novice investor. Is this a real fear among people in the industry?
Here in WA where we are out for 6 weeks (1 for spring break), the governor has already stated we will not go past June 19th regardless (school is supposed to end June 4th for our seniors and June 11th for everyone else). I bet all states will have to do similar if this lasts very long.
This is what I’m hoping in NC - we have precedent with hurricane damage in the past resulting in long absences and the state deciding to wave the missed days.
In his press conference yesterday, the mayor said that here in NYC we are at this point planning to make a first attempt to reopen on April 20 (the day we would have been coming back from Spring Break anyway), but that he had to be very honest and say up front that the very real possibility exists that the 2019-2020 school year with in-person classes is over.
Regardless of if we’re able to get back in or not, the state has already waived the 180 day requirement - they did that long before the mayor and chancellor made the call as there were several districts in the state that had already closed.
I’m grappling with this. I have a beach house rental week of June 20. Landlord said I need to clean cancel now and I still only get my money back if she can rebook it. I’m keeping it for now but I’m really wondering if we can go and if should cancel. We also have a Niagara Falls trip in August. I’m hoping for this one. That’s hotels so I can cancel up to 48 hours in advance.
In addition, I can see political agendas out there that will use this as an opportunity to over-throw our democracy and move us towards a socialist and even communist society.
Is anybody else having to line up to enter their grocery store and are limited to what and how much they can get? Isn’t this eerily similar to lining up for bread?
That’s what I was thinking. DH will though. We won’t be able to do other activities like the boardwalk and we’d probably cook all meals but bring at the beach will be nice.
The first cases in China were reportedly in November of 2019, even though the Chinese did not let the rest of the world know until December. Chinese officials have stated that the virus is effectively over in their country and have closed all of the temporary hospitals. South Korea is also seeing declining cases.
If China is telling the truth (I know a big question mark) then we would be looking at four months. I believe cases started in the US in February, so if that trendline holds then hopefully we will be past the worst by June.
