Rapid-Fire Pre-trip Questions

Are they cashless tolls? In 2019, we got the FL Visitor Toll Pass for our rental from MCO. It was very easy to use. In 2021, we just bought the SunPass because we used it throughout FL and we can use it when we go to other east coast states.

ETA: I highly recommend the Visitor Toll Pass. It is very easy to use and free.

You can pay by plate as well. Buying Sunpass or similar ahead of time can save you a little bit of money…but last time we were there, I just used the pay by plate…Basically, just drive straight through as if you have SunPass, and you will receive a bill in the mail. I didn’t have to do anything, and didn’t need to deal with having cash or change, even for out of state drivers.

I’m not sure, however, that works for rental vehicles, since they charge the plate of the name on the vehicle registration.

We used the Visitor Toll Pass for 3 different rental cars in 2019. We added and deleted the license plates from our Toll Pass account as soon as we got the cars and returned the cars.

We’re hiring a car for 2 days to go to KSC and Legoland.

The car comes with a E-toll reader. We get charged $5 a day for each day that we pass through a toll, plus the cost of the tolls. So an extra $5 for us since the route to Legoland doesn’t use toll roads. We get billed a few days later.

Edit: there’s a limit of $20 for the use of the transponder, so if you use it for 5 days you still only pay $20. Plus the actual tolls of course.

That is my assumption for this trip as well. I will assume IOA will be the starting point for Hagrid’s and VC.

That looks pretty close to what we are thinking.

During a trip about 5 years ago we took DD on the mummy not realizing that it turned into a high-speed roller coaster after the easy-bake oven. She was a little traumatized. I will be working on her to give it another shot…it is one of my favorites.

We have never really had an interest in or tried Dr. Doom. It looks like your standard carney ride. I can be convinced if you think differently.

Hulk will be tough to convince DD. However, I have high hopes of convincing her after she does VC. She really is hyped for VC.

If crowds are high, we would drop MIB. I will have to see once I throw it into a TP.

Bourne sounds great. I always passed by Fear factor in the past and could potentially see the Bourne show.

Depending on how the day goes, we could be convinced to throw in one or two of the popular screen rides (Spidey, Transformers, Simpsons). Not saying we will get to them, but we will keep our options open.

When I am on business trips in other states, National rental car company will forward along the cost of each toll at a later date. There was no need for me to use a Toll Pass… they just took a picture of the license plate.

Unless others know differently, I will assume it is the same in Florida.

So you pay $5/day to use the toll pass plus the cost of tolls.

With the Visitor Toll Pass, you don’t pay the $5/day. You just pay the tolls.

Here’s my post on using the Visitor Toll Pass:

I just did a quick google search and it looks like my assumption is correct for the rental car and tolls…

These rental car customers can use Florida’s toll roads and not worry about carrying cash or stopping to pay for tolls. Using license plate recognition systems, toll usage can be associated with your travel and paid through your rental agreement. This allows rental car customers to use SunPass, E-PASS and LeeWay lanes .

It is detailed on the SunPass website…

SunPass : Rental Vehicles

As an example for National:

Cost per day: $3.95 fee per usage day (24 hr. interval) that customer incurs tolls, plus tolls (at posted cash/TOLL-BY-PLATE rates)

Cost per rental period: $19.75 maximum fee per rental period plus tolls (at posted cash/TOLL-BY-PLATE rates)

Program Overview: Participation is automatic.

Opt-in decision is made when the driver elects to use EXPRESS, SunPass ONLY, E-PASS ONLY or LeeWay ONLY lanes.

Nothing to decide at time of rental.

It’s been a few years so I’m not sure what the current options are.

You can only get the Visitor Pass if you rent from an MCO outlet though. At least if you don’t have a US address.

Don’t ask me why. :no_good_woman:

Question #11:

I don’t think I mentioned we were doing the Marathon Weekend races yet. DD will be running the 10k (first 10k race for her!) , DS will be running the Marathon (first Marathon for him!), and I will be running the Dopey (2nd official Dopey for me!).

After our day of thrill-rides at UOR, we will be heading to Wide World of Sports to pick up our race bibs. Is there any parking restrictions when using our rental car to park at WWoS to go and grab our bibs?

I have only ever taken the Disney supplied transportation in the past to the race expo.

No. There aren’t any parking restrictions at WWoS.

Question #12:

After we grab our race gear, we will head to Disney Springs for supper at Ragland Road. What is everyone’s preference with respect to transportation? Should I drive and park at DS or should I drop the car at Pop and find another way to DS?

bonus Q…

What is your favorite dish at Ragland Road?

If you will not be otherwise going back to Pop, I would drive to DS. If you need to stop at Pop, the DS bus works great.

Ok would also just drive to DS for dinner and then later to Pop

Bonus: I got the braised beef dinner my first time in and it was fantastic

We’re also planning a 1-day side trip to UOR on 1/4/23, without Express Pass. Hagrid’s and Velocicoaster don’t take Express Pass anyway and by the 4th holiday crowds should have gone down. Mind you, our ride hit list is short: Hagrids & Velocicoaster, the 2 Harry Potter lands, and a few other rides.

Our plan will be something like this:

*Start in IOA w/EPA
Velocicoaster
HPFJ
HWEx to USF
Gringotts
Mummy and/or MiB
Diagon Alley
HWEx to IOA
Hogsmeade
Hagrid’s in late afternoon or whenever waits go down
Poseidon

HP doesn’t get too crowded in mornings since the hordes go to Hagrids… avoid unless you get up early enough to be front front front of the pack.

Since you will already be in the car, I would drive.

Bread pudding. DO NOT skip this.

Question #13:

After I get up stupid-early and complete the 5k race, I will rush back to the resort to wake up the troops for outer-worldly adventure. We will be doing a one-day touring plan at Kennedy Space Center. DS has focused in on physics at school and wants to tour KSC. I brought him there back in 2008, but I think he was too small to remember. I am thinking of the following plan of attack:

  • rope drop park
  • Kennedy Center Bus tour first thing
  • Atlantis
  • Hall of Fame
  • Rocket garden

Any comments on this plan or lessons learned from recent visits?

KSC has a Touring Plans like tool.

You can either put in what you want to do and see how long it will take. Or tell it how much time you have and it will suggest an itinerary.

I suggest doing Atlantis first. And possibly the rocket garden before Hall of Fame in case the light fades earlier.

Also is he more interested in the history or the future? Because they also have several exhibits now to do with future exploration.

Highly recommend the visitor toll pass. Even if you drop the car off at the CCC, you should be able to drop the visitor toll pass off at the airport when you fly out.

Highly recommend, 5 stars!
