Price Increases

Like you said, it’s your money to spend how you see fit. I personally don’t like when anyone thinks they have the right to tell anyone what they should do with their $. I don’t care how little or how much you have or the other person has. But I can also see where people that were conservative with their spending and saving could be upset that they have to pay into a government system to care for people that should have put $ aside for rainy day and retirement but blew it on things they didn’t really, really need. Fine lines and all. Bottom line, do what you want with your own money. The decision is yours to make.

As usual I mentally dial back your hyperbole 30 degrees or so when reading your posts, so I’m not offended by any means, though if taking your words literally, I understand why you tend to cause a reaction. :joy:

Anyway, it’s true that $10K is not trivial to me, though I reserve the right to go on the Starcruiser under some combination of the following:

  1. In a few years my kids will be older and able to appreciate the experience
  2. if I can figure out a configuration that costs less per person for 6 of us or have someone else covering the superfluous spots in the second room / leave behind a child with someone else
  3. the price of the experience doesn’t rise with inflation or is even reduced
  4. My finances follow their current trajectory and I can more easily afford the trip without feeling irresponsible (though this sum will never be trivial to me)

Also, I agree with @mikejs78 that the inflated prices up front we’re likely part of Disney’s plan. Not sure if they burned through willing buyers as fast as they hoped, but we’ll likely never know.

It sounds like your mum would have loved for you to blow that money and have a fantastic time doing it. Hugs!

So sorry for your loss but I wholeheartedly agree with this use of the money she left you :people_hugging::heart:

Yep as soon as they announce CM or even us undesirable AP discounts I’m going to seriously think about doing it  granted I don’t have to pay for 6 people so it’s much more doable.

oh man, I’m so sorry :frowning:

regarding the cruiser, whether or not it was their plan wasn’t my point. My point was that they are possibly using it as a barometer to gauge general spending attitudes. If they see those that are super-flush with disposable income are pulling back, it’s very likely they’ll surmise that those with any disposable income, at any level, is also pulling back.

Oh, so sorry for the loss of mom! I do remember all of the precautions you took during the early months of COVID to keep her safe and sane.

I’m so sorry for the loss of your mother. I hope you are able to find something reckless, irresponsible, and loads of fun to spend the money on!

I’m so sorry for your loss. My FIL died tragically when our kids were 2 1/2. My MIL gave each child some money in his honor with the only instructions being it had to be used on a family trip that we would all enjoy in his honor. We saved it and added to it until our sons were 6 and then took them to WDW for the first time. It was nothing short of magical and such a fun way to honor and remember him. I hope you find just the right way to blow that money in the most fun way in memory of your mom. Honestly, apart from that gift we might not have taken them to WDW. We didn’t think we were Disney people but thought it would be good to take them once to experience it and the gift would be the perfect excuse and boost to do that. We were wrong of course. Instead we learned we are absolutely Disney people and we went back 2 more time in the three years that followed. We haven’t been back in years now and with the increases I am not sure when/if it will. But that first trip and the ones that followed were such a blessing.

No, because that is a wholly different situation.

I didn’t say no-one should go on the Starcruiser. I said I’d judge @Jeff_AZ if he spent ten grand on it right now.

Just to be clear, I have not told anyone what they should do with their money.

Exactly what part of this is hyperbole?

And, for the record, I was agreeing with Jeff.

It was clear, I was just stating how I feel. It wasn’t directed at you but at Tinker questioning what others would think of her decision to spend her $s on the Starcruiser. Hell, if the price tag didn’t faze me, I’d go in a heartbeat. But my state is in the bottom 10 for average household income. Cost of living and food is in the bottom 20 but cost of utilities and gas in the bottom 5 so it averages out… in Louisiana. When you start comparing it to the rest of the country, people in plenty other states in a similar living situation as mine will definately value 10k a little less than I do.
And I digress. I’m just upset I can’t justify spending my doe-re-mi on the Starcruiser, lol. DH would absolutely love it.

I guess saying exactly what you mean is hyperbolic compared to the type of conversation I’m used to.:rofl:

So true. I know plenty of people that would judge all of us here for the amount of $ spent on resort stays, trips to WDW several times a year, ADRs, Loungefly, party tickets, DVC, etc)

To me, Disney is so much more than a typical vacation, theme park, resort. Most people don’t understand that, and that’s ok!

Oh , that would be a great way to honor her. I’m sorry for your loss… Thank you for sharing your story

If you buy this, I will also judge you:

There are no circumstances under which it is acceptable to buy a £450 ($525) teddy bear for an infant. If you do so you have too much money and it should be taken away from you and given to the poor.

BTW It’s ten inches tall.

But…. It’s wool.

Also it’s ugly AF.

And this is the reason I’d judge someone for buying it
