Apparently managing the overall operations of their theme parks and resorts that thousands and thousands of people give them their money willingly year after year despite changes. I mean, I gotta figure that if people really felt as passionate about the idea that Disney is going out of their way to screw us all over and take all of our money with nothing in return, they’d stop going. But they don’t
Forgive my snark. But it feels like nearly every thread devolves into a “Disney is a terribly company anymore and here’s why” conversation.
Ain’t that the truth! They botched the DAS changes. I hope they are in the works of making this right because I’m hearing so many horror stories and so much inconsistancy. They need a more solid plan.
I do hope they get this right. I think they are being strategic with this one. I’m sure they hope the problem will fix itself with a few heavy worded threats. But I think Disney also knows it’s going to have to crack some skulls to get the message across. And it’s going to have to stay on top of enforcement. And that’s a very complex thing.
I’m not sure what the reasoning is for international issues. But some international guests get much better packages and deals than can be offered to US residents (without a work around). So there’s that…
I agree. There isn’t many other companies that have this complex of a network and generally have high guest satisfaction. People will and do speak with their wallets. For all that people complain about, if you’re spending your money there you must see value. I think some people are just the grass is greener type.
The conspiracy theorist in me (which actually isn’t in me), it could be the motivation for this is to drive the “commercial” owners to sell off so that Disney can buy a bunch of points for cheap and be able to resell them at full price.
True, but the more contracts for sale should result in a little bit of a price per point decrease. I guess it will depend where the contracts are held as well. 300 points doesnt go as far at Grand Floridian as it does at OKW.
I’m a big believer in getting points at the home resort you really want. So if the market is flooded with OKW and SSR, not sure that does me a lot of good. I can’t imagine Poly dropping much if the supply of Poly contracts haven’t changed drastically.
I need to do a stay at SSR just so I can see if I woudl be okay with it if everything is booked at 7 months. I’m not in the market, but SSR dues are cheap and if a really cheap contract came on the market I’d be looking. DH would probably want me to sell my other contracts though and I don’t know that the extra 130 points would make up for how much I love them. Maybe.
I haven’t stayed at either. I love the vibe of OKW but SSR has benefits like Disney Springs and quick(ish) access to a couple other resorts. Not that the later is a huge deal. But French Quarter is beautiful and has carriage rides and a great bar. I guess I should consider it too. But I think I would really prefer a resort attached to a park.
The first time I stayed at OKW, it left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. I’m trying it again at the beginning of next year. Hopefully having a car will make it better.
I went with my DW and my best friend. We got two separate studios. Booked at exactly 11 months. I got near HH, he got a standard room. He was waitlisted for near HH, and the waitlist never came through
So I tried to call them to say “hey, we’re all grown adults, keep our room near HH, and his room wherever” They responded with:
I did have the points owner call in with the same request, and assured me it was in.
So we get there, and they pulled our room OUT of the HH area, so that we were both in the same building. I thought I explicitly asked not to do that. So I went back to the front desk. Now that we are officially checked in, I can talk to them… I asked for our room be moved back to near HH. They did, to a 3rd floor room way in the boondocks of “near HH” I said that’s not going to work, especially after my DW runs the marathon. (no elevator). They moved me to another room (with 3 free anytime fastpasses), and one of the maintenance panels is open Then we go get a third different room, and finally get something halfway decent. It was a 2nd floor room, though I wanted ground floor. All the ground floor rooms were taken when we were moved out of our booking category. They did give us an email for a free night anywhere not on the monorail within the year.
So when I say I was anti-pixie dusted when it comes to rooms, this is why.
