Poll: Help Me Decide About DLR Dining

I voted for Hearthstone Lounge as it has great food options. I ate there as recently as January and had a lovely meal with Celeste. The food was great, and it was a quiet respite from the crowds.
I also voted for Centrico. The food is good and it has a nice atmosphere.
I have eaten at all of the others on your list, some of them many times. I used to love Storytellers but the last visit it took forever to get seated and then it was a loud and overstimulating environment. Cafe Orleans feels very Disneyland to me. It’s the place to go if you are looking for a monte cristo and frites with a side of people watching. Carnation Cafe is good for breakfast, but it has a fairly limited menu. I have been there for lunch and dinner as well, but can’t really remember what I got and I always preferred breakfast.
I haven’t been to the inside part of Carthay Circle in years, but it reminds me of Hollywood Brown Derby in some ways. It is the most upscale dining on your list. I see Blue Bayou isn’t on your list, have you been there?
I haven’t been to Wine Country or Craftsman Grill in quite a few years. Both are good. I have also been to Great Maple quite a few times. I prefer breakfast/brunch over lunch/dinner for some reason. It is a very carb heavy restaurant, and everything is large portions so we usually have leftovers. This is a perk with food being so expensive in CA.
I see you are definitely going to Lamplight. They have been hit or miss for me, but lately mostly a hit. When we go in May we are probably going to try the Boardwalk dining area outside for the first time since it was the Cove Bar pre-Lamplight. The inside decor is fun. I just wanted a different menu than they currently have inside.
You really can’t lose with DLR dining!

I am excited to finally try this in May.

The only thing I am finding frustrating is that I am seeing that menus change a real lot. Multiple different vlogs I’ve been watching have referenced it, and it makes me a little nervous with picky eaters that we will agree to it based on the menu online but arrive to find it very different.

Is this always how it is?

They have always changed things up at times, but never as much as they have in the post-Covid years. I don’t like it. I find my favorites, and then they change the menu.
The good thing about DLR is the quick service is really good, so if a menu changes you could cancel your ADR and still eat well.

Yeah if anything we are struggling with how to fit in all the great QS we want to do!

How many days do you have?

5.5 at DLR on the whole, 4 of which are park days

We arrive in the early afternoon on Sunday and depart in the late evening on Friday

We are not going to parks on Sunday - I remember from our last trip that we were absolutely WRECKED by 9 PM because it was 12AM to us and we had been up early to boot for travel.

We are taking a day in the middle to just enjoy the resort

Sounds great! Is this in the summer? Otherwise you might miss F! and fireworks if not there on a Friday-Sunday night.

Very yummy and affordable - we liked Tiendita for lunch on arrival day in DTD. QS

The app isn’t always the fastest for menus. It’s really frustrating.

Will you be trying Pym’s?

Yes! See my DWs Chimichanga obsession and her love for the turkey sandwich at Jolly Holiday, and she hates turkey…

The Shanghai rice cakes with chicken was amazing but not complicated palet-wise. But the rice cake texture made it a “no” for them. Which meant I got it all to myself. Along with the cucumber salad. Yuuuummmm…

I voted other for Carnation Cafe! It’s simple, good food that just fits Main St. I’ve always loved everything I’ve eaten there whether is a burger or meatloaf and we love the fried pickle apps. And it all goes so well washed down with a shake or cherry coke. Reading the comments I do see, Main St. is under construction and that could be a drawback (and I do believe it is under scaffolding right now). BUT outside you would still be able to see across the street and inside would be likely fully unimpacted. But if I had to switch it I’d put Cafe Orleans, because those River Views and a Monte Cristo & garlic parm fries are heavenly!

And then I put Hearthstone Lounge & Carthay Circle as both of those are phenomenal for ambiance. They do both have fairly limited menus so I would take a close look at them. And if you need to satisfy pickier eaters and have more variety, Storyteller’s or Wine Country Trattoria are great substitutions. But I love the atmosphere at Carthay and Hearthstone both over Storyteller’s or Wine Country, so I do hope they have some menu items that your group will love.

Also - I love Lamplight too but had a family member with picky eaters do it last year and they were not impressed. They struggled to find things there that everyone wanted, they did not order any fun drinks and then service was slow and their order lost so they left feeling very ho hum about it. And after I (& their TA who booked it for them) talked so highlight of it! So perhaps give that menu a glance too, just to make sure!

I think you’re right about the Boardwalk Dining, but inside seems to have a more accessible menu. I will double check though. It might be the one “I planned this trip so we’re doing it for me” card I play

It is an EXCELLENT use of that card. And maybe they will like the fun drinks (both cocktails and mocktails) overlooking the beautiful Lagoon or inside surrounded by a treasure trove of Pixar studios archival art.

When in May? My DS and I will be there 5/10 to 5/15.

Sitting by the water was lovely.
So were the lobster nachos  I shared with Tab. Marie and I skipped on her visit bc so many other places. We should have still gotten drinks. But only so many hours!!!

So much great QS.

Going in June too! We like Storyteller’s breakfast, that’s the only ADR we’ve decided on so far.
