I can’t decide where to eat at DLR in June and so I need your help.

  • Cafe Orleans
  • Carthay Circle (restaurant, not lounge)
  • Wine Country Trattoria

I would love it if you share your reasons for choosing what you did - or even for why you did not choose the others!

Thank you

My favorites are Carnation Cafe and Lamplight Lounge

Lamplight is a given so that’s why it’s not on the list.

What do you like about carnation?

Another vote for Carnation Cafe. Our group of 8 all enjoyed the breakfast. DS and I will be having breakfast there again for Walt’s chili cheese omelet. My DSiL loves the patty melt at lunch.

It was difficult to choose between Carthay and Wine Country. Do I remember that you have some picky eaters? Carthay might be too out there for them but you will love it! (Although it has ben years since I did the full restaurant experience so…..)

I ate at Centrico for the 1st time on my last trip and really enjoyed it as well.

I voted for Cafe Orleans cause it’s the best. Wine Country Trattoria is an underrated location in DCA.

My “other” is for Din Tai Fung, which served one of the best meals I have ever had in my life. :yum:

Storytellers bc our brunches were delicious and the characters were fun. The variety of food felt better than buffets usually are. My roast beef was wonderful.

GCH Grill - we had delicious dinner and drinks arrival day - which wasn’t planned. We had hoped to eat light meal at Broken Spell Lounge but they still had a Christmas menu and limited options. Our food was yummy and it was so comfortable. It was January and chilly out and they had outdoor heaters and it was cozy. I’d totally go again.

Hearthstone. I’d pick that one. I haven’t eaten there. But so many recommend it and I tried to get in on our flexible days and couldn’t.

One warning about Carnation Cafe is its currently under Main Street construction wrap. Ruins the charm a bit, especially outside. We ate inside and had a fine lunch there last week, though we didn’t think anything special. Teens enjoyed the floats.

Fair, but just so you know, I am one of the pickiest eaters out there and I loved every bite of my meal. There are plenty of dishes for normies.

I mean, it can feel a little adventurous. It’s not like your local Chinese food exactly (which is a good thing), but you have to generally be ok with things like dumplings and bao buns as a concept.

I was honestly skeptical I’d like it because I don’t like the idea of steamed bread (which is what a bao bun essentially is). But there was nothing off-putting about it in actuality. Everything looked and was appetizing when I saw it in person. Personally I think it’s worth a try.

But you know their tastes, so obviously you’ll have to make that call. It’s just so good that I feel the need to make this case for you.

I’m about a 80~85% adventurous eater. I’m actually pulling back more as I get older.
But I can’t get excited about bao. I’m hoping it’s in a cruise sometime where I don’t feel like I’m paying to try it.
Cruising is where I first tried sushi. Which I didn’t care for. My older girls love love love it.

Oh, yes! My second “other” is Din Tai Fung. Waiting to make a reservation for our arrival day. Everyone loved it, except our picky eater, my DH.

Catrhay Circle is good. I like Wine Country, but we actually like Magic Key Terrace better. Storytellers is surprisingly good!

For some inexplicabe reason, my DW will kill people for the chimichangas at the QS locations. She seems unusually fixated for the ones at Poultry Palace :person_shrugging:

I also have to say that 鼎泰豐 is also one of the best Taiwanese restaurants there is. The pork soup dumplings are so good! And their fried rice, it will spoil you. Even their bok choi with scallion oil is just :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I can use this to my advantage! I don’t think I realized that you are picky but if I can share with them that a picky person enjoyed the meal there then I might have a shot at convincing them to go. Thanks!

Which I would not have access to, so it’s irrelevant :grimacing:

I ate there with two mid-Western ladies who found the

Passable but were largely unimpressed becaise they were expecting them to be more Panda Express and less authentic.

I really enjoy Taiwanese style Dim Sum so will definitely go again! Maggie doesn’t care for bao because the meat in it is often slightly sweet.

My family loved Storytellers - the variety and quality if food is fantastic.

I’m sorry, but as someone who enjoys Panda Express and eats at fast food way more than I should, I just do not understand how someone could react this way. The food is simply of such a high quality that it’s hard for me to imagine someone not enjoying it.

I am NOT a food snob. But maybe I’m becoming one.
