Oga's cantina

I put this in dining but I think it’s just a bar ?

Anyway, looking at the pictures, this place looks awesome (I am a big Star Wars fan). However, it’s rated super poorly and TP even suggests to avoid.

Any comments from the perspective of big Star Wars fans ? Upcoming trip will be my first since Galaxy’s edge opened and I am really excited. Don’t wanna waste time on sucky stuff but don’t wanna miss anything cool.

Basically, it is. It’s highly decorated and themed. You bartender / server may use jargon from the SW:GE universe and all the menu items have SW names. There is an animatronic in the bar - the former Star Tours robot R-3X (Rex)

It’s communal seating, if you even get a seat. You will be sharing tables with strangers. Most people have to stand at a high top table or the bar. If you aren’t looking to make “new friends” you may not enjoy it. Plus, you have to be done in 45 minutes. No lingering!

I’ve done it once. It was “cute”. I’d never go through the hassle of fighting for a reservation. The drink was “OK”, but definitely a pre-mix with very little alcohol. If I’m paying $20+ for a drink I want to taste it and feel a slight buzz!

However, if you are a major SW fan it might be fun to visit. It’s like being in the oringial SW cantina… (It’s a very small place btw)

That’s interesting to me.

I would bet it these are both related to the circumstances, which include that you may or may not (probably will not) have a SEAT to sit in but will be in a standing-room-only high top table situation, and that you are limited to 45 mins and when it is busy they really push this.

That said, it’s a family favorite (some of us are big fans, some of us are not quite as enthusiastic but still fans). And we always try to make time to venture in. Our favorite time to go is at or after park closing, so that we are less rushed (usually) with that 45 min time frame, are not missing other attractions, and - best of all - exit through an empty park which is magical and allows for some great photos as you go.

One no longer has to fight for a reservation. They are plentiful almost every day, and walkups are easy to get as well.

That’s good to know!! Thanks! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Sure! Back in its early days it was super hard to get. I remember that all too well! But now. Meh. Easy as pie (most days - someone noted a day recently when it at least appeared to be all booked up)

Good to know about the possibility of walking in ! I do not have a reservation and trip’s in 44 days lol. If it’s a bar, is it 21+ to go in ? I have 3 kids (2, 5, 13), maybe I shouldn’t even consider it ?

If you are a big Star Wars fan it is a must see! Just keep in mind the things others have mentioned so you aren’t surprised to be standing (or sitting) with strangers

For a first visit and you can get it I recommend standing at the bar, you get more interaction with the CM’s there. IME

Kids can come in and there are a few fun mocktails for them

I agree! When I went in the bartender was very engaging. I like pretending/roleplaying and using the Batuu language / lingo. He roleplayed back and made it a fun time!

Eh. I mean it’s fine, but you won’t for sure get a booth and particularly with the littler ones that will be some level of challenging. Might be fun for the 13yo and one of you though (if there’s more than one adult)

You always have to determine what you like. We aren’t even huge SW fans (OK, DH is but I’m mid-range), and it’s a must-do for us. The drinks, while batched, are fun and there are definitely some good ones. The atmosphere is energetic. If you don’t mind being close to people and most likely standing, it can be a great time. It all depends on what you like.

DH and I went once, when it was still fairly new. I’m a bigger SW fan than he is, but we’ve been fans since college when the first movie came out. (OK, we’re old.) We’re not big drinkers, but we wanted to go to Oga’s to at least do it once. We had interesting, non-alcoholic drinks (it was about 10:00am). I had the Carbon Freeze, now priced at $8, which was visually interesting and tasted fine (to me). There are a couple of pricey snacks, which we did not try.

Like others have said, most of the places to have a drink are standing ones - either at long oval high tops or at the bar. We were at a high top, with two other parties. One was a family with small children who could barely see over the table, or even reach it. There were 8 people at our high top.

I say give it a try! But know ahead of time what to expect. It can be a fun memory.

Thanks - might end up being just a 1-minute walk-around, take a couple pictures and leave.

The food itself isn’t good. Unless you count a jello-shot like concoction as food, that was decent.

The only time I had a seat, I was paired with a group with a few littles. I don’t think they were happy to have a stranger join them. It was awkward. I definitely prefer to stand at bar

Eh that might be hard too.
If you have a reservation, and you don’t use it (even though you’ve shown up) I don’t know if you’ll be charged a no-show. Not sure how that would work

No I don’t plan on getting a reservation, I was thinking of trying to do this as a walk-in…

Worth an ask, but I don’t know that they’ll let you just walk through.

I know what you’re saying - join the walkup and get admission for your party that way, but I don’t think they will just let you walk through. Not sure I know if anyone has tried though

We did it with our 4 kids (then ages 11, 10, 5 & 3) and were also on the trip with extended family who had 2 kids (then ages 11 & 7). Most of the kids had to stand at the high-top just like the rest of us and some of them were not at all into that plus it was loud & overstimulating which resulting in most of the kids wanting bolt as soon as possible. They did bring a high chair for my 3 yr old so she could be a table height, but it a tight squeeze at 3 and my 5 yo was jealous because he could not get one and also could see over the top of the table just barely. So just some things to consider with the kids. If they are Star Wars fans though that could definitely improve their attitude and desire to experience.

On the walkthrough to snap a picture, even though we’ve only done Oga’s in Walt Disney World, we frequent Disneyland park more often and I know for a fact based on how they so strictly operate it to keep you exactly to your 45 min limit & even consider getting up to use the bathroom a forfeit of your time & seat and will fill in your seat, they would never allow a walk-through like that and would be very huffy about even the suggestion of it. The Walt Disney World Oga’s may be different, but I don’t know it’s been tried.
