Some people will want to be away from all elevators because of the noise. We may need to color-code the elevators then, and show both.
That’s fair.
I stared at this thing forever looking for Abracadabar next to Trattoria al Forno before deciding it must be from before 2016!
I didn’t realize Abracadabar was introduce so recently.
There’s also no Cake Bake Shop, but I don’t know the rest of the boardwalk enough to know what else is missing. Maybe the Pizza window?
This is just my view, but I think public elevators would be more of a concern when it comes to noise. With staff/housekeeping use, I’m not sure if elevators are any more of a factor than storage rooms etc.?
If they are clearly marked then I don’t think there is a problem with having both on the maps, but like @ryan1 said the distinction is important. Some will look at elevators for accessibility and convenience, and others as something to steer away from.
This is a good point. When we stayed at Pop or ASMu (forget which), we heard way more noise from the Mousekeeping area than elevators!
And
I was wondering if this might show up in the “Sound Level” filter, so I checked Riviera (which I still had up) - I had also read that rooms right under Topolino’s can get additional noise.
The Sound Level filter is acting strangely?
Total rooms: 489
Rooms with Sound Level quiet: 444
Rooms with Sound Level moderate: 478
Which makes it a little hard to determine if rooms near elevators / restaurants / etc at that resort are being flagged for possible sound.
Besides the filter - I wasn’t sure if the Sound Level data also comes from Disney, or if this is a TP addition.
I was thinking the same thing. Those 60’s rooms right next to the skyliner were the best standard rooms around. To be fair, I think those rooms could legitimately be considered preferred, but still see what is happening with the money grab.
Although it may not fit your specific use case, the Sound Level filter appears to be working as intended.
The filter is an aggregate function. When the Sound Level filter is set moderate (3), find all rooms where the Sound Level value is 3 or less (sound level <= 3). Another way to look at it is, find all rooms that are moderate or better
With some additional work you may still be able to answer the question by using the sound level displayed on the individual rooms’ detail pages.
I think not. Anecdotally, the public elevator is really the issue. Here’s a link to my trip report where I mentioned the elevator:
The dinging was going on for over an hour during peak end-of-park-day time. That wouldn’t be an issue with the service elevator.
Ah! In hindsight, that makes perfect sense. This is a really weird case to be looking for louder rooms, and not something I would do normally. ![]()
It works fine to search on the quiet rooms and look for the unmarked rooms. ![]()
When will the room finder reflect the change of the 60’s buildings at Pop? It currently still has some of the 60s as standard rooms? I have a trip in 43 days and want to add my room request to my dashboard.
I did the programming yesterday and it’s queued up to be released in the next day or two. I’ll post something when it’s live!
@JenniferB1975 This is done and available to everyone. Let me know how Pop looks, please.
We also updated POR Building 90 based on new data.
@len, a user on chat has been having an issue with the room finder and Poly tower. I am trying to help and I have sent them screenshots shots and directions to find their rooms. The issue is that they are trying to compare preferred/resort view studios. It seems that if you search a room view (such as resort view), and then try to change the room view (preferred view), the room finder reverts back to the last search (in this case resort view).
Do you have to quit the room finder, and relaunch to change room types (resort to preferred)?
@PrincipalTinker - thanks!
You shouldn’t have to quit to change room types. That’s odd.
Can you (you personally) reproduce the error?
Yes, I can reproduce it. I have set the room finder to resort view and did not touch any other field. If I then try to change it to preferred, it ends up reverting back. I have not looked at any other resort. I know I never change room views so I wouldn’t have caught this. I suggested on chat that they open separate tabs for each search so that they compare.
I was also able to reproduce with studios at Kidani. If you look at resort view rooms, and then open the building map, you see the rooms. If you then change the view to Savannah view, the building outline shows up. The user believes it has been updated, but it is still resort view.
I think maybe just some text about resetting the room search is needed?
I think we need to fix that. I’ll take a look after the holidays. Thanks for pointing it out!
A quick FYI: Our Disney person says they’re updating the Moderate room type categories on January 1, and will get us the updated data when they’re done typing. (Yes, I was also surprised to hear they do it in January 1.)
It’ll probably take a few days to validate, test, and update that data once we get it. I’m hoping to have the Moderate resort data updated by January 15. (I’m on a cruise Jan 4-11 and should be able to work on it if we have the data.)
We got the Moderate room updates last night from Disney. I’ve loaded them locally and they look decent. We should have them on the site by Wednesday.
(I’m traveling on Sunday, so Monday I’ll test on our staging server. If that goes well, we’ll load to production on Tuesday. Wednesday is the backup day in case I need to fix anything unusual.)
