I’ve seen that hole in person

Yes. I’ve been in that visitor’s center. Thanking my lucky stars we weren’t there when the asteroid hit.

What gives it away — you know, apart from the beach DJ thing — is that Thatcher didn’t have that haircut at that age. The haircut was part of a transformation that was designed to make her look and sound more prime ministerial.

I know you were being hilarious, but I’m still going to rise to this bait.

I read somewhere — though I cannot find a source for this — that Shaw meant something entirely different.

In the context of a war, those who can fight should fight. Those who cannot fight — e.g. because they have been injured — can still play a vital role by teaching others how to fight.

This wins the thread. It is virtually tailor-made for us.

To be honest I’m surprised he made it through Spring training this year.

Thank you @sanstitre_has_left_the_building for responding to this comment. If I never saw it again I would be extremely happy. I’m not even quoting it because it’s hurtful to me. Also, the only proper ending for that quote is “and those who can’t teach (or have never taught) make policies about education!”

I will also take this opportunity to call out the meme with the ambulatory wheelchair user and “the healing effect of tacos” or something like that further up this thread. I was too far behind at the time I encountered it to want to respond. I just want everyone to know and understand that ambulatory wheelchair users exist and so that meme is extremely ableist. Yes, it gives me a momentary chuckle but it also does a disservice to many people who can stand and walk but need the assistance of a wheelchair at times in order to live their complete and full life. I am not technically one of that group, but since many throw ECV users at Disney into the same or similar category I feel I need to speak up. Also, at one point I was very close to feeling like I might need a wheelchair for distances and standing for more than a few minutes at a time.

This is me, but I did chuckle at it. Probably because it’s the meme thread and I’m frightfully sarcastic. But I am definitely someone who has trouble walking and standing for long.

@Jeff_AZ I didn’t take offense to the management one. I resemble that remark too much LOL!

I did not know the origin of the quote – that’s pretty cool. My grandpa used to always quote it (he was a sociology professor).

(For the record, I was poking fun at managers, not teachers.)

I’ve always heard it:
Those who can, play
Those who can’t, coach

There’s a spot in our smaller airport terminal here with a sign that says “Soup of the Day: Margarita” and I like seeing it when we’re leaving from that one.

I’m sometimes asked if I’ve ever had a student who’s smarter than me, and how I cope in that situation.

I say that even the best sportspeople in the world have coaches.

Indeed, this is Shaw’s point as I understand it. Top tier sportspeople are often coached by retired sportspeople who once played at the highest levels. They now cannot do so, but they still have much value in training the next generation.
