Nope, nope, nope. It’s pronounced “niffer” so that’s the way it’s spelled. If you spell it “nifer” it’ll be mispronounced as “knifer.”
Meanwhile, here’s a touching story from the NYT today about two Jennifers who met because of their shared name.

Oh yes, knifer. I’m sure she was shooting daggers at @ScottFL over that post. 
Maybe at work she’s a Niffer, but that makes me think of fluffy bunnies.
