The answer is divorce.

someone asked for our house wifi pw. It is a math thing and they were a math person (high school math teacher) that didn’t know what I was talking about. I was disappointed in them, but they were still impressed and learned something new. My DGS and SiL learned something new during their recent visit too

Me too. I live in statistics every day but Calc is not part of any routine in my life. My brain hurts a bit even trying to refresh reading through an integral. I did see the answer when searching though

I’ve not posted those kinds of problems for a reason

I don’t think this will give you a pin code. That might be the biggest joke.

It should give an actual value. I might even be able to remember how to do that one.

Without looking, or doing anything to remember anything…I came up with 16 (or, more properly, 0016)?

No idea if that is actually correct.

I tried to, and it was disgusting.

This is no longer a fun thred.

Not all jokes are funny.

It doesn’t.

The problem set is stupid, though, because you can literally type the integral into a kid’s calculator and it will give you the answer.

I’ve been slowly dusting off my brain for a lot of the more advanced math as my kids progressed. Been a looong time since I’ve worked with integrals - but looks like my daughter is going into something with the humanities so I may not have to break that back out.

It is nice that my daughter thinks I can remember some techniques on the fly even though I hadn’t thought about them in 40 years. But, I’ve done pretty well if she gives me a little time to stare at things.

Anyway, I cheated with Wolfram Alpha.

Even the internet was like… eff that noise.

Maybe this capture of my Google image search history will bring it back.

Respect.

How did you get to sec(x) = ½ (t+1/t) ? That’s the tricky part, I think.

Clearly I’m wrong. But I realized why. I was stupid in that I never actually took the integral of anything! I just plugged in the lower and upper limits, etc. See. I clearly need a refresher.

Along that lines, I’ve toyed with going back to get my Master’s degree. But one of the fears I have is that any of those classes might require me to actually recall that Calculus that I obviously can’t remember how to do!

Ok you just made me realize how old I actually am and I don’t like that one bit. However, I went back to grad school 11 years after I finished to add a concentration to my degree and it was so much harder to do than I imagined. I was always pretty decent in school and made good grades fairly easily, but omg that was tough bc so many skills had atrophied, as well as new technologies introduced in that time.
