Liners on the High Seas 🚢

Why did I never realize you had a second sister?

ETA: And the way you phrased it I’m wondering if you have even more of them!

We did a DCL: WISH in 2024 and it wasn’t for us. We did this last cruise solely as a means of transportation back to the states, as it was the same cost of a flight BUT we got to visit four new countries, someone else did all the cooking & cleaning plus they worried about the weather, not us;) Anyway, as introverts, anytime it felt like it was getting to peoplely we went to our cabin and hung out on the balcony. We didn’t participate in any activities other than games (we brought our own) and then we accidently created an early morning coffee club. We would do it again for transporation and get a balcony, so we have a retreat

The repositioning cruise is the one that resonates the most, for certain.

Once we did a 2 week Euro bus tour in October that only had about 50 people. The tour had add-on tours which we didn’t buy into - choosing to do our own excursions in the cities we stayed in. Made some good memories. One being the flood control museum in an Austrian town but it was closed due to floods. Through the window we could see the water line about 3 feet up the wall.

Guess I didn’t miss much :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Does this qualify as “ironic”?:rofl::rofl:

It’s certainly incongruous

I will not cruise without one!

AGREE!!!

Originally, on the NCL we reserved an interior room and bid on a balcony, which we won (YAY)! But after doing this two times w/ a balcony and seeing what an interior room looks like, we would just book the balcony straight away. We need to get away from the crowds and have a place to sit and relax.

Tagging @QwertySC because you asked about it specifically in another thread.

sorry so many of you got tagged today.
I was cleaning up the entries.
It only allows 25 mentions per post, so I had to break it up. I don’t think we use the history too much, but I do think it could be helpful if you have questions about a ship to see who has sail on that voyage.

Thanks! I agree this will be helpful as a reference.

Sure! It’s May 24.

Star is the newest Royal ship and I believe the largest ship in the world, along with its sister ship Icon.

We’re doing the Star in April 2027. We absolutely cannot wait! I am excited to hear about your trip!

I still owe you my comments from our Sept cruise on the Star.

In a nutshell:
It’s our new favorite class. Such a colorful ship! So much good food in the complimentary places scattered around the ship. The main shows are great - especially BTTF.. This ship class has such a different way of arranging things about the ship - the deck plans, how people move from one area to another (smart elevators, stairs, escalators, slides). Ahead of time, I made myself a cross-section diagram like they use on the ship so I could really understand the layout. The ship never felt crowded because of the way they spread the public areas out. I was so glad to have a 7-night cruise to have time to eat at a variety of places and really explore the ship.

Keep checking the app in the months before your cruise to see when the main 3 or 4 shows are finally listed in the Daily Planner then book them ASAP. They do several performances of each, but you can reserve a given show only once. You can try to see it again by waiting around just before showtime.

The cabins still have those stupid, screeching wire baskets instead of drawers. We used the two shallow drawers at the desk to hold sox, undies, and other small stuff. I just let their hairdrier sit on top. You could use something as a liner for those wire baskets to at least block the view of the front. It was just the two of us, so we had enough room, mostly, but earlier ships had better storage (such as Freedom class).

Love this review! Thank you! Fortunately I almost refuse to sail less than 7 nights because even 7 nights is never enough time for us!

Which other ships did this one feel like? Did it feel Oasis-y at all?

In only a few areas. Otherwise, so much was very different!

Areas that were very similar between Icon and Oasis classes are the main theater, the main dining room, the Windjammer, the Music Hall, and the Diamond Club/Crown Club

Parts of it were similar to Oasis, but not identical.

Icon class Surfside on Deck 7 Aft is similar to Boardwalk on Oasis Deck 6 in that both had a Carousel, some food places, and kid-oriented shops.

But they were very different because Icon class Surfside has pools and activity areas for young - and even younger - children in place of the AquaTheater. Icon class Surfside has stairs and a slide from deck 8 to 7, and stairs down to deck 6, all outdoors by the sliding glass entry doors.

Icon class and Oasis class both have Central Park on Deck 8, which were very similar. No Rising Tide bar on Icon class. Icon was much more colorful, and has an indoor staircase along one side that goes down to Deck 6 Promenade (upper level of Promenade). There is a window into that staircase where you can see all the way from Central Park to the ocean.

Both classes have a Promenade on Deck 5, but Icon has a full second-level on both sides of Deck 6, instead of the partial one on Oasis. Icon class has The Pearl in the middle of the port side, which has a staircase within. The Pearl is 4 stories tall, you only see three stories of it. You can see the ocean from the middle of the Promenade on both sides on both decks. So wide and open!

The Casino on Icon class is accessed via escalators from Deck 5 Promenade or Deck 2 on the starboard side, as well as the fore and aft elevator lobbies.

The areas that were very different include the elevator lobbies (I love them!!!), the pool deck and open decks above, the ice rink, the water show area (indoor AquaDome vs outdoor AquaTheater). Also the front indoor area under a lot of glass is the Overlook instead of the Solarium. No pools/hot tubs, just lots of different seating nooks and quiet! Very good place for napping. :zipper_mouth_face:

The cabins have larger, rectangular showers with a bench. Our cabin did not have a nightstand for both sides of the bed, but we were in a funky one that was center front on deck 10, with a sloping exterior wall (with window).

One of the best things is the many places for complimentary food scattered around the ship, near each activity area. I’d read that when they did the layout of what was where, they spread all the activity areas around (e.g. kids’ pools on Deck 7) and put food and bars near each one. We often ate a mid-morning big breakfast at the Windjammer (always found room near the back - so quiet!) then a light lunch/snack from these other places or two or three, then supper in the MDR. We were happy being the only ones at our 4-top table.

The elevator lobbies are very wide, with all the elevators somewhat in a circle. Each elevator is labeled with an alphabet letter. There are several touchscreens positioned around the lobby with deck numbers displayed. You touch the deck number you want to go to, then it tell you which elevator to use. I think each person is supposed to touch the floor number so it knows how full it will be (didn’t always happen). This way they group people by destination. No more waiting for an “up” elevator when two full ones pass by. No more riding an elevator that stops. at. every. floor. Elevators don’t have windows, but they do have beautiful, bold artwork!

This is what I am intrigued by! Our last trip was on the Odyssey which has the 270. This sounds like a mix between the Solarium and 270. I LOVE LOVE the Oasis Solarium but I don’t think I need a pool.
